Who else was disappointed in University Christian (FL)?

For people that were at the game how much of a home field advantage was it for the Birds being on the shady side of the field, was there a big difference in being in the sun as opposed to not being in it?
Hard to say if with certainty if it was a big difference, but if I had to answer the question, I'd say it wasn't . I was field level behind the north end zone and there was a very nice breeze blowing, field level, almost the entire game; to the point I was looking at the American flag as kickoffs and punts were about to be made in order to gauge impact. That had to negate some of the impact of standing in the sun. Plus this team is from Florida. After a summer of practicing in the Florida sun, I seriously doubt that standing in the sun was their problem. And for the record, I don't buy into the "UC owning Highlands" in the first quarter stuff. We had two turnovers and we tackled poorly; that played a much bigger role in the Birds being down 10 than UC having superior athletes in my opinion.

I don't know about "owning them" either but UC seemed to quickly lose their speed. Early on they looked on TV to be quicker, but that changed pretty quickly.

In fairness, UC's pass rush was causing Highlands huge problems for their first 4 possessions. It was the pass rush that sacked and caused the fumble. Highlands couldn't block them. Once the pass rush slowed, and the Birds picked up the extra rusher off of the edge, fatigue got to UC, or because of fatigue the pass rush slowed. Prior to that, they were pretty dominant.

I don't believe, if this was week 5, that the result would be much different. Highlands would have actual film of the players, not best guesses due to the numerous transfers. Line would have 5 weeks of cohesion, and the backs would have time to pick up the blitz.

It's hot in Florida but that doesn't mean their players are in shape.

Additionally, I don't believe that high school players should ever weigh over 300lbs. That just seemed like way too much stress on #55's body. That kid would be out of this world if he were around 280.

It's the same for every state. The consensus top programs are in the top classifications. Florida football is 5a-8a. Florida football isn't 2a.

Ok well then 2A in Fla. does not equate to 2A in Ky. Not sure of the parameters but if they have 8 classes that would mean like 1-2 A in KY.

Has anyone thought about any affect of bus lag after spending around 10 hours on one the day before plus trying to sleep in a strange the night before the game. Probably wouldn't bother a 16 year old as much as it does this old goat but I'm sure it didn't help any.

They practiced an hour from Highlands on Thursday, so they had time to get over the bus ride. I feel like that team was soft emotionally and physically, what I'd call a "front runner." They talked a lot when the game started and when adversity hit, they wilted.

I can't answer that question. I never thought of Florida football as anything special in the first place so them losing is no surprise to me.

I don't think of any state being more dominate than any other state due to the fact that all states compete for their own state titles and every state is different. Different set of rules set by each state on practice times etc. number of players etc. too many variables.

So when someone says Florida Football or TN Football or Ohio Football I don't think of them as being any better or any worse. I just think of them as another high school football team.

Then you clearly live in a world different then the rest of us. Ohio, Florida, Pennsylvania, Texas, California are better football than Kentucky. We have one team, maybe two that could beat a top 20 school from either of those states. I'm not including HHS in that, I'm talking trinity or st. X. The beat down HHS took from trinity in the scrimmage shows you what the best teams from those other states would do to HHS.

Loads of truth in that.

With reference to the pass rush... Give some credit to the coaches. They made adjustments. I agree fatigue came in to play later, but the coaches had little to no knowledge about what this team would bring to the field.

Highlands may not be able to play with the big schools in those states, but they certainly can play with the schools of equal size.
