Who else was disappointed in University Christian (FL)?

Featured Replies

I will say that they are not a great program. Didn't this coach restore their "former" glory of the mid 90s or something by finally winning a state championship last year? I equate them to University Heights in basketball maybe. Some years they are going to be really good. Some years they aren't going to have much. It's not like they rolled off state championships in 5 of the last 10 years or something.

They might be really good in a few years and win another state title. Or they may not win another one for another decade.

As for being ranked #1 or whatever this year in Florida or getting National rankings. That is just magic number and name garbage. Didn't I tune in ESPN and see the USA's #1 team up 51-0 on the # 6 team in the country in like the third quarter? Now how would they have gotten to #6 if they were not named Norcross GA?

Heat played a factor as well. Those kids were sizzling in the sun with nowhere to hide that day. I felt sorry for them......only after the first half.

That is the defending state champs from Florida?

That is the #1 ranked 2A team in Florida?

They have that many players playing both ways?

They are that out of shape?

They had that much trouble getting their plays in?

That is their passing game?

It is a shame too, University Christian has talent, before they ran out of gas sometime in the 2nd quarter they pretty much owned the Birds but then the Birds two platoon system, far superior coaching, balanced attack, and much better conditioned players embarrassed UC.

I was very disappointed in University Christian (FL). Who else was disappointed with them?

With only 200 kids in grades 9-12 I don't find that unusual.

Was totally shocked that a team could be that out of shape for the start of the season, and a State Champ on top of that.

Head-scratcher to say the least. However I did notice the UC coaches switching headsets on numerous occasions, so there could have been some issues there, however they still should be able to get plays in.

That was HORRIBLE!!!! Hell they throw everyone out there but the Waterboy. Boone Co. has better passing QB's than that, did I just say that :lol2:

I would agree, Highlands offense was anemic at best during this time frame, but was "gangbusters" thereafter.

Count me in. A NewCath/UC, CovCath/UC, hell Beechwood/UC would have been better to watch.

For people that were at the game how much of a home field advantage was it for the Birds being on the shady side of the field, was there a big difference in being in the sun as opposed to not being in it?

There's always a team that's overrate (plus HHS is pretty darn good). BGP had Dixie rated top 10 when Pike was a senior. Sometimes you just don't know.

Mainly, I attribute the beatdown to HHS players and coaches.

It was "flame thrower" hot sitting there. Got to my seat 35 minutes before kickoff and within 5 minutes I could feel sweat rolling down my back. With 20 minutes before kickoff my shirt was "soaked" and my hat could have been rung out, I think it weighed 5lbs from the sweat. Left for the shady confines of the concession area at halftime and did not return to the bleachers, at this point the sweating stopped completely.

However that team was not in shape and the heat only compounded the problem.

UC won't see as potent of a passing attack all year, they have no depth oh and it was like 100 degrees on the field.

Was it not being in shape as many have said or more to do with the heat on their side of the field and so many kids going both ways? Early on they seemed to actually be physically superior to HHS, but platooning and heat took its toll.

Just a little statement.....I coach HS football in the Tampa Bay Area and you would be surprised about the amount of bad football in the area. While there are 8 classes in FL, 6A is probably the deepest of the classes.

I was not too surprised by the blowout.

Coming from Florida I'm surprised the heat would affect them that much. It's been relatively mild up here this summer, has it been cooler in FL also?

10 points in the first quarter and a half equates to "Owning the Bluebirds"???? If so, then they would have "Owned" most of Kentucky.
Of course it doesn't. But the notion does make for some good ol' fashion Bird-baiting.

I was personally having a conversation with the UC head coach after the game and he cited in order

1) "I have never seen a HS team so deep at every single position"

2) "Highlands does not have fat guys"

3) "Our fat guys are way out of shape"

Lastly he said, "boy I sure would like to play you again in 5 wks from now"

I shooked my head in agreement and said goodbye and good luck and as I turned away to walk my wife said...

FWIW, coach never once complained about the heat...I think this is a non issue for them, but for us SnowBirds, well that is a different story...Just sayin

"if he thinks his team is going to be in good shape by week 5, what does he think Highlands is going to look like by then"

I smiled and told her she was right on the money, but she needed to lay off the Blue Koolaide Slusshies...Just sayin
