No idea and I don't care anymore because Florida football must not be very good! Although if they ever get in shape, I do feel they had 4-6 future D1 prospects on their squad.

And from what I hear...from their parents I talked to at the game...they are like a Mini-Trinity. They aren't a big school for numbers, but they get the "pick of the litter". I started a conversation with a parent because I overheard him talking to another parent. And this guys seemed to be close to the program. What got my attention is he kept saying "That's another new kid" ...like the other guy was curious where all the kids came from. So I asked him basically why he kept imforming him of that. And he confirmed what others have said, they get transfers every year. They actually count on them. And I mean tranfer at the high school level. He told me one of the kids that transferred in was a senior and a running back on the 4A state championship team from last year. Apparently, the 4A team graduated a ton of kids and this kid wanted to come to UC to play for a state again. So you can downplay all you want, but they had a ton of talent. I will give you that because of the transfers and the fact that they had not scrimmaged at all, they may not have been a cohesive unit. But you will not convince me they weren't extremely talented individuals.

I agree they were talented, the biggest advantage for the Birds wasn't IMO coaching or adjustments or taking their vitamins, the biggest difference was numbers. Birds had a lot more horses than UC did.

Sames as schools with open enrollment in Kentucky except with out KSHAA interference from what I've read. Very liberal transfer policy in Florida.

There is a 1A. The team University Christian School beat last week (47-0) was Carrollwood Day School (Tampa) (1A Region 3 District 5). Deuce Gruden was their quarterback in 2010 and 11.

So the parents and students had to pay part of the fine. That is a very good way to control cheating IMO. If the parents know it will hit their pocketbook, they will be more diligent about following the rules. Although, that wasn't true for these Armwood families.

Ok well then 2A in Fla. does not equate to 2A in Ky. Not sure of the parameters but if they have 8 classes that would mean like 1-2 A in KY.

 

2A goes to 227.

 

Kentucky's largest schools would play in 5A, maybe one or 2 in 6A. Of the 30 public high schools in Hillsborough County alone, all have student bodies in excess of 2000. Wharton High (8A) has close to 4000 kids.

I screwed that up. Carrollwood Day is 2A and though there is a 1A, 2A is the smallest class.

Just when Providence believed it had a chance to bottle up Ke’Shan Pennamon, he broke free.

 

And when Pennamon got loose Friday night, it led to Hussein Howe Jr. crossing the goal line for host University Christian.

Howe scored all four Christians touchdowns, each coming after Pennamon delivered a big play. A kick return from Pennamon, along with a breakaway run, a big pass reception and an interception, all allowed UC, top-ranked in Class 2A, to hold off the Stallions 29-10 in a non-district contest.

 

Pennamon opened the game with a 51-yard kick return to set up a scoring run from Howe and later added a 44-yard run and a 48-yard reception off a pass in the flat, each leading to Howe scores. For good measure, Pennamon sealed the game with an interception he returned 44 yards, with Howe finishing off the scoring with a 30-yard touchdown run.

 

“The frustrating thing about that is we had him stopped a couple of times in the backfield,” Providence coach Bobby Raulerson said of Pennamon. “He was running wide, we set the edge and he cut back across the field. When you get a guy like that running in the open field, he’s tough to bring down.”

 

The frustration belonged to UC (2-1) for much of the opening 34 minutes. Aside from the first drive of the game, the Christians had trouble moving the ball.

 

“Providence had a good scheme, and we had to adjust to that,” UC coach David Penland said. “They have some good players over there. We had to keep chipping away.”

 

Providence (1-1) had big plays from Will Mitchell — a 96-yard kick return to start the second half and tie the game at 7 and a 68-yard run to set up a field goal. But the Stallions had a few drives stall in Christians territory.

 

Penalties, turnovers, bad snaps and blocked field goals played a role, along with three sacks from Antonio Simmons and big plays from Brandon Long along UC’s front seven. Defensive back Jake Stoshak added a pass breakup off a big hit in the end zone to force a field goal.

 

“We had opportunities to go ahead, but we could never really get into a rhythm,” Raulerson said.

 

“Against a defending state champ, you can’t turn the ball over. We thought if we didn’t turn the ball over, we could have a lead in the fourth quarter, but you saw what happened.”

 

While Providence pulled to within 14-10 at the start of the fourth quarter, the Stallions could contain Pennamon and Howe no longer, as Howe rushed for 107 yards, including 50 in the final quarter, and scored from 1, 3, 6 and 30 yards.

Florida football is very top heavy, there are teams in Florida that would roll anyone in KY. UC was/is not Florida football.

Sure they are, just a smaller school version of it. I'd take UC against any 1A or 2A team in Ky. Had Highlands have played Mayfield or NCC the results would have been very similar, except I don't think HHS get's in a hole to either of them. That's not a knock on either Mayfield or NCC, Highlands will overpower any team that doesn't have the numbers to keep throwing fresh bodies out there the way they do.

 

Anyone that is truly disappointed needs to realize this wasn't Bosco, Hoover, del La Salle, Ensworth or Moeller, as many HHS built them up to be, just a very good but out numbered little private school from Florida that was the State Champ in the smallest class in Florida.

Anyone who thought they were a very good team or even a good opponent for Highlands is smoking something special.

Sounds like KY, that's surprising.
