Patrick Towles

Well glad you prefaced the question.. my point had nothing to do with him not trying. I just don't think he's ready for the spotlight so he's kinda content just being there right now.

I don't know the kid personally but I find it hard to believe he is "content."

I hope you know him personally, otherwise, that is a fairly damning statement. Seems like a reach to me, to be honest.

I'm in the camp that says he's not an SEC QB. If he's good enough to play elsewhere then do it. If not, be a backup QB.

Whitlow did not play badly, too early to pull the plug on him.

46 yards passing at half. He cannot pass well enough to make this offense go.

This has been my point all along.

You either play Smith or Towles in THIS offense or you modify the offense to meet the skill set Whitlow.

Whitlow + Air Raid = 46 yards passing in a half (including 3 completions for negative yards)

You listen to what Lorenzen says enough and the fact that Towels is not even considering transferring, playing or not, you can figure it out.

Towels will get his shot in the future he has to own that moment.

I think of it like this- even if Towels is the best option by a little bit, what do we really lose by redshirting him and letting him play with more guys that can actually catch passes once they arrive? I don't think any of our QBs are gonna be that much different at the end of the day. We'd still basically beat and be beaten by the same teams anyway.

^ my point exactly

What did Lorenzen say?

So let me get this straight, Patrick Towles has redshirted for this season and cannot play. Right?

Not necessarily. My understanding is that you can pull a redshirt off of a player at any point. He could go up to the finale "redshirting", but still have it pulled if UK opted to do so in the last game. If he makes it through the year without it being pulled, then he's "redshirted".

Someone correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I understand John Anthony's point.

When people question whether or not Towles will transfer since he isn't the starter and doesn't look to get playing time in his UK career at this point(whether he is one of Joker's guys or not) the answer is, "Pat enjoys being at UK and will never transfer just because he isn't playing."

John Anthony is saying Towles has the skill set to play immediately and is good enough to be the starting QB but if the answer to why he isn't the starter in John Anthony's eyes is that it has to be mental. Pat is in a fraternity, he's enjoying life at UK, he loves UK, he'll never leave even if he never gets to start or play. Those are posts in this thread. I think the better question is John Anthony's assumption. Is it a mental thing with Towles? Everybody feels he has the talent.

So if he redshirts this entire season he will have 3 years of eligibility left? If they pull the redshirt mid season say he will only have 2 years left? Wasn't he redshirted last season and had it pulled?, can't really remember. If I were him and wasn't named the starter this season,(wasn't he ranked as high or higher than Barker coming out of high school?) I would go on and transfer, other wise this seems to be getting closer in some aspects to Pike. There just seems to be something wrong with this picture, maybe not?

^ Yes, if he redshirts this year he'll have 3 years of eligibility remaining.
