I had this conversation at work today with some buddies. Who will win the starting job and is it safe to assume that whoever wins the job will not feel the pressure every game of keeping that spot? Does anyone have info on how this battle is playing out so far? Will the loser of this battle transfer?

I am hearing Maxwell Smith has lost arm strength and isn't fully recovered from his injury and that is why I didn't mention him. If that is inaccurate information someone please correct me.

I read that he isn't 100% and I actually think he was quoted saying the same thing. Seems odd for the injury he sustained but I don't know. I could see Towels transferring though.

You have Whitlow beating out Towles? I almost expect the loser of this battle to transfer. I hope Towles is the starter. I can't help but wonder how much time Joker's guys have and if they'll fall victim to not being one of Stoops' guys like we see happen a lot in college.

I don't mind either starting, but it seems as if a lot of people believe Whitlow will end up being the starter, some say he has been the most impressive early on.

Maybe a different story had Joker not screwed UK over, that's exactly what he did IMO, when he played Towels at the end of the season thus removing his redshirt.

 

 

With Barker, Smith, and Whitlow, on for next year along with Reese Phillips, and whoever else comes in next year I just don't see Towels staying.

An 85% Maxwell is still the better choice.

From what I've heard, Smith never got his shoulder fixed so one hit and it could happen all over again so I think he's out. Brown likes Towles but is worried about his release and how slow it is because it needs to be quick in this offense. Whitlow is the leader because of his mobility. He has his flaws (inaccuracy) just like the rest but he can move and gives them the best chance. I hope Towles wins the job but I believe Whitlow will.

Smith was interviewed on KSR Monday & said he didn't have the surgery. He also said, much to my surprise, that he wasn't 100% & probably would never be 100%.

 

I think the job is Whitlow's to lose. And I think barring injury, he's the starter for the opening game.

Hearsay on my part. I talk to tons of people who follow the program religiously and a lot closer than I do and I trust their info.

 

I have also only seen people speculate that it is Whitlow's job to lose. I haven't seen or heard anyone say with certainty that it is Whitlow's job to lose. Just speculation.
