Patrick Towles

Featured Replies

I have a feeling that PT will stay at UK. He loves the school, and besides, it's way too early in his career for that. If he does redshirt this year, he'll be a sophomore next year (eligibility wise).

Just because Towles did not get the nod this year does not mean that such will be the case next year. PT has the physical skills needed to successfully run UK's O in the SEC. If you can't throw the ball deep, it allows the secondary to play up, making the chunk and dunk passing game much more difficult to run successfully. I think he just needs time to pick it up. Heck, before the year is out, he may be starting if injuries occur or if Smith and Whitlow struggle.

I read the Towles is going to transfer stuff on the UK message boards and it drives me nuts. Some people don't run from adversity or set backs.

We agree. Way too early for the staff or PT to be making any permanent decisions about his UK future. I'm not sure what it is that is putting him 3rd right now but I have to believe coaching can make it better.

Even as one of the biggest Barker homers on here, I fully realize he's got a tough road ahead of him at UK when it comes to winning the job. He can but he'll have to bust his rump to do so.

For those in the know.

Is Whitlow a true QB or is he a Randle Cobb like play maker? I hear so many negatives about his passing accuracy and so many positives about his play making ability.

If he is not a true QB, I personally would never play him there. I would use him pretty much the way Cobb was used.

I am not one of those people who believes that your QB should be your best play maker. I think your QB should have the ability to get the ball in the hands of the playmakers at the right time.

The people that I know (opinions I respect) tell me that Phillips is the best QB for this system, and that Whitlow could play 3 to 4 different positions in a game, including some at QB, but they don't feel that right now he is an every down QB.

He is more of a QB than Cobb was.

I kind of hope PT red shirts for sure this year. Because if not, he will get a chance to play in a "panic" mode sort of speak role this year. It's not "if" it happens but "when" it happens. Mark it down.......

I think PT ends up becoming a big time TE at UK. Good size and speed. Long slow release will haunt him trying to play QB at any program.

I've heard others say this....the Chase Harp scenario.

Just depends how bad Pat wants to play QB. Lorenzen was offered by Ohio State in High School to go play TE for them. He took the QB route. Jared could of won him a NT at Ohio State if he would gone to Columbus.

I think Pat stays in Lexington...

Word is that part of the challenge for PT is reading defenses.

I do not think we see him leave UK.

With Towles not listed as either the Starter or #2, does this mean he transfers?

i have not heard anything nor am I speculating. The QB play was not good last year and with the Air Raid Offense I believed this was what best suited UK and Towles. Also, with Barker coming in next year, this adds more competition.

This is the High School forum, I believe Patrick is a Sophmore in College now.

I am sorry. Close it then!!!!

I don't think a redshirt is the worst thing ever for Towles. He can have a year to work on just getting better. Barker is just a senior in high school this year, and I'd rather have both he and Towles than one of them alone; this is especially true considering the fact that it could give Barker the opportunity to redshirt (think of the possibility that he gets injured and needs a medical redshirt if nothing else).

Being Kentucky, and playing in the SEC, where a quarterback can be knocked out in an instant (wow... didn't UK see that last year, which is a reason we ended up with 3 quarterbacks in the same class anyway).

Towles probably has it made being UK quarterback, so unless just wanting to be virtually assured of playing immediately by going to a smaller school, where he will not get to live the life of an SEC football player, I don't think he should leave.

I believe this year Maxwell Smith will be on a short leash, especially with a new coach coming in. If any changes are made to the starting rotation, I take Towles over Whitlow any day of the week in the Air Raid offense.

Even if he doesn't play this year I don't think he transfers. Sounds like he is joining a frat there at UK plus he simply loves UK.

I think he'll ride it out.

Back up QB role at big schools can be a nice perk.... Sounds like he's riding that out. As long as he's happy.
