Patrick Towles

I know he didn't fully redshirt. That's what I said. He was under a redshirt for almost the entire season but played. I know that takes his redshirt away but I just didn't know how that applied to this year.

It's not like the NCAA has the clearest rules ever. Lol

I guess I don't understand your issue. He didn't RS last year. He is allowed to RS for one season. Why does last year's non-redshirt have any impact on this year?

He clearly doesn't understand what a redshirt season is.

My money is saying that Towles is not in the "top 2" that Stoops and Brown are now considering. Looks like Whitlow is pretty much a lock as one of the two, but don't be too surprised if Phillips is the other one rather than Smith. I think Smith's shoulder is still a significant issue.

Given the fact that these other QBs in the mix at UK are either sophomores or freshmen, and that they have a big recruit at QB coming in for next season, if he is not named one of the top two I hope PT gives serious consideration to leaving UK and playing for a program where he gets to have a couple of years starting under center.

I was chatting about this yesterday and someone made a really good point. While logic says PT might want to go somewhere else we cannot discount the fact that he LOVES UK.

Redshirts are granted after the season. The coach can designate someone at the beginning.

Correct. Minds can be changed during the season.

No doubt!

I wonder how much they teach at HHS on reading defenses and recognizing fronts, blitzes, stunts, and coverages. I have heard that the qb is essentially told who to throw it too on any given pass play and they do not "read." Like I said that is rumor, so who knows...Does anyone have any insight to how they go about their passing game?

I have some insight, and there is zero truth to your statement. None.

Clearly you don't know what you're talking about.

Not an issue. I don't pay close attention to details about redshirting a player.

I know you can designate before a season but if that player plays he no longer has the option to redshirt.

My question was about the designating. I wasn't sure if you formally had to designate someone before the season. If that player then played thy lose their redshirt but also wasn't allowed to redshirt again. That's all I was confused about but it's cleared up now.

Gotcha.

That's funny.

Not sure I follow pal. Your previous posts regarding PT 'semi' redshirt season, painted the picture that you don't understand how the red shirting of players works. You asked if he can red shirt again since he 'kind of' redshirted last year. That's not a real thing. You don't kind of red shirt. Either you do or you don't. You don't have I be a freshman to redshirt either. After his injury last season, he could have been given a redshirt and began this season as a red shirt freshman rather than a true soph.

If he redshirted this season. Next season e would be a redshirt soph.

Sticks is hard to handle when you have the speed that they have year in year out...nobody wants to get beat deep and then all of a sudden the wr slams on the breaks and catches the hitch for a 1st down.

Always heard Coach tells them who to throw it to and it is up to the wr and qb to make it happen. I am not sure I believe that though.

PT never had to read defenses because his receivers were always open. He had 2-3 sometimes 4 guys to choose from to pass it. In college he has to find the one receiver who will be open for a split second and throw it on time. It's not the scheme in high school, it's the difficultly of college ball

Good to know, thanks for the insight.Do HHS qbs have the freedom to check or change the play based on what the defense is showing pre snap?

Hey there is always a role for that but I think he will want to play and compete.
