Patrick Towles

I'm not a Highlands guy and there is no doubt he is talented. Just because he isn't the clear cut starter in his sophomore season with a new coach and a new system doesn't mean he isn't talented.

I guess we'll disagree. Someone as talented as Towles supposedly is should have zero problem beating out the likes of Whitlow, Phillips, and a Max Smith that isn't close to 100%. He most assuredly shouldn't be the #4 guy when it comes to impressing the new staff.

For the record, I never said he isn't talented, just that maybe he was a bit overhyped and may not be as talented as everyone was led to believe.

In fairness to Pat, he played in a predominantely vertical passing game in high school. His arm and the speed of the receivers had a ton to do w/ that. He never really, at least as a Sophomore and Junior, had to read the middle third. On top of that, his O-Line was much better than their competition, so he had time to hold onto the ball. It has to be a learning experience to change the way that you see the field, and it doesn't happen over night, or even in 1 season. Remember, he didn't practice w/ the 1st team for most of last season. I'll hold off on judgment until everything plays out.

However, for the system that he played in at Highlands, he deserved all the hype that he got.

Stoops says it is down to two and he hopes to redshirt one of the other two.

Whit & Smith

Towles will most likely get redshirted. People saying he's not talented have to remember he's still a sophomore. There will still be opportunities down the road at UK. He's talented, just not all there yet. Also I don't know why Joker took his redshirt away last year. SMH at that staff

So can Towles redshirt again, where he kinda did last year? How does that work?

Some think Towles will get the redshirt.

Yes the redshirt doesn't take effect until after the season, assuming the player designated for it did not play.

He did not redshirt last season.

I wouldn't be concerned about PT at all if Barker wasn't coming in, I hope he doesn't get lost on the roster.

One thing Pat will have on Barker is that he will be in the system a year an half before him. That bodes well for him

I know he didn't fully redshirt. That's what I said. He was under a redshirt for almost the entire season but played. I know that takes his redshirt away but I just didn't know how that applied to this year.

It's not like the NCAA has the clearest rules ever. Lol

No doubt!

I wonder how much they teach at HHS on reading defenses and recognizing fronts, blitzes, stunts, and coverages. I have heard that the qb is essentially told who to throw it too on any given pass play and they do not "read." Like I said that is rumor, so who knows...Does anyone have any insight to how they go about their passing game?

I would be interested in hearing that info too. I don't think anyone will share it though. I know they are famous for their "sticks" play which is a comeback route that comes back to about a yard of the first down marker.

Sticks is hard to handle when you have the speed that they have year in year out...nobody wants to get beat deep and then all of a sudden the wr slams on the breaks and catches the hitch for a 1st down.

Always heard Coach tells them who to throw it to and it is up to the wr and qb to make it happen. I am not sure I believe that though.
