There aren't many things in the sports world that leave me shocked these days. This was without question one that did. Still can't believe it happened...

He has his work cut out for him...I wish him well.

I actually didn't hear about this until I turned on the radio to the Reds game earlier & Marty mentioned it. Very surprised like everyone else.

 

I like Stevens & I like the Celtics. I don't blame either one for coveting the other, but I'm skeptical that this will be a successful pairing. I hope I'm wrong though.

Brad Stevens to the Celtics. In 4 years, he'll be named the coach at Evansville because he didn't get Tim Duncan in the lottery.

I really see this as low risk, high reward for both parties. Boston will get more kudos than criticism for the hire. If it doesn't work out, Stevens will likely land at a higher profile gig than Butler. He may even be able to get the Butler gig back, for all we know, if it doesn't work in Boston. He gets $20 mil for his trouble, either way.

True story. If both hit it's ingenious; if one doesn't, it wasn't expected to anyway (& the Celts have tradition-- probably enough to attract a candidate ready to push a team over the top if needed).

I could be way off base here but this is how I look at it. Just how much teaching/coaching is really going to go on here? I mean at this level, how much do the professionals really listen to a head coach anyway? The inmates run the asylum. This is a PR hire. Stevens won’t have the pressure of recruiting or worrying about keeping his players eligible for the basketball season any longer and he’ll make a ton of jack for a short period of time. I think he’ll find out that he really has NO control, will miss the college game, and be back before his third year in Boston is up. JMO

As young as this Celtics team is there is going to have to be a lot of teaching and coaching. Development will be key for all the young guys they will have and will be bringing in, they need someone who can mold it all together to try and form a talented arrangement. He will have to coach as hard as anyone in the NBA the next few years IMO.

Some guys aren't worth building around no matter how good thy are. Rondo is in that category...
