Are you sure? LCA went on probation for having athletes exceed the threshold. I think there is a current court case about a girl attending Owensboro Catholic that is ineligible because she was awarded to much aid.

 

A student cannot receive more than 25% merit aid and be eligible for athletics.

And, Raceland, Russell, Greenup County, Boyd County Ashland, Fairview, East Carter, West Carter, Lawrence County, and Elliott County (none with tuition).

I think we have been through this before, but who doesn't have open enrollment? Boone Co. schools and who else?

Want to make it clear--not ALL public schools are opposed to playing them. We called them last year to try and play for next 2 yrs, but their schedule was full for the weeks we had open (it was before the Cincy schools dropped them).

 

Also, to Hoops Lady's point: we are NOT 'Open Enrollment' and have played them closer than any other public school (like Scott Co, we lost to them by 7 a few seasons ago). I'd love to be able to take kids from anywhere in Jefferson Co., but still think despite that we should still be able to compete & beat the 2 power private schools (lost to X by 1pt the year after we came close to T).

 

 

Male (who DOES have no enrollment district, BTW) beat both T and X last year at the Frosh level and we have beaten X at the frosh & JV levels in recent years.

 

So it IS possible. ...and the constant planting of the seed in public school kids' minds that it's not possible is part of the problem--in my opinion. It is deliberate on our staff's part to work weekly in the off-season to dispel this paradigm.

 

 

Three years ago, a certain team in Union was able to beat Highlands, snapping its long KY high school opponent win streak. The following year, a single injury turned this same program into a third place finisher in its own district. Perhaps in metro Louisville, you have the number, diversity and depth of talent to be competitive with X and T, but most do not.

 

Even before any 6A team thinks about competing with X and T, they have to get to the level that Scott Co is at. At least they are a large school facing little to no competition for athletes, and supported by both a university and a major industrial entity. The Northern Kentucky talent pool has been thinned by the addition of 3 new programs in the last 6 years , and by changing attitudes towards football that has been addressed in other threads here.

Being close to beating trinity doesn't count. The fact that you would bring that up shows how good that program really is. Close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

 

Also, trying to compare programs through the freshman teams really doesn't mean anything. It's no indication of what's going to happen when those kids are seniors.

 

Ryle really has no excuse not to win, the talent Is definitely at that school, I think the problem with Ryle lies else where.

I have nothing to support my opinion, but I think part of the problem is the beat down teams get at every level (Varsity, JV, Frosh) and a simmerring resentment that some JCPS schools have over the number of JCPS students who enroll at T.

It will be interesting to see what happens when khsaa assumes oversight over middle school athletics. Particularly, the concept of declaring your high school of choice by 7th grade. I think the resentment comes in when athletes who are not committed to a program have no problems taking reps from kids who are. Treating a change in choice as a transfer might alleviate some of these issues.

When exactly does JCPS assume ownership of students? :ohbrother: It is also a well known fact that many more students leave the Parochial school system after 8th grade then vice versa. Should the Catholic high schools claim ownership of those kids?

I have said for years if there were a 6A catholic school in Florence, with a good coach, Trinity would be minus half it's titles. Not gonna happen so Trinity will continue to demolish the pie.

I don't know how much they dip into the Florence, Boone County area. Although, their most recent QB is from the Ryle district and he will go down in the CovCath books. Just shows you what could happen with a school in the right place.
