April 23, 201313 yr If the Cubs had decided to walk the bases loaded instead of face Cesar Izturis or Devin Mesoraco in the 13th inning, it would have been Homer Bailey batting in the 9th spot for reliever Alfredo Simon. Reds manager Dusty Baker said he didn’t want to burn his backup catcher, so he had ordered Bailey to put on his spikes. Bailey was in the hole, with a helmet on and a bat on his head when Izturis singled home Jay Bruce with the winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning. “Who do you want to face? Izzy or some guy hitting .400?” said Bailey, who is 2 for 5 this season. “What do you think they had the meeting on the mound for?” Homer at the bat? | Cincinnati Reds All kidding aside...if you were the Cubs manager, why wouldn't you have walked the bases loaded? At that point, the runner on 3rd is the only one to be concerned with. You set up a force out at any base, in case a ball happens to be bobbled by an infielder. And, most importantly, you force Dusty's hand. He either has to let his pitcher hit, in order to have him available to pitch the 14th...or he has to pinch hit for him. And even if he had gone with Miller...wouldn't you rather take your chances against someone who was hitting .111 at Triple-A, hasn't had a major league at-bat since 2010, and more importantly, has been sitting on the bench for the past four hours?
April 23, 201313 yr Wouldn't be surprised if the Reds made a move today. They have Cingrani going again today, and the bullpen is pretty thin after last night.

One reason would be that the Red's are the home team so if you walk those guys you guarantee the top of the order bats in the next inning.
April 23, 201313 yr One reason would be that the Red's are the home team so if you walk those guys you guarantee the top of the order bats in the next inning. You want to make it to the next inning, and then worry about that. I agree that walking the bases loaded would have been the best move for Sveum to make.
April 23, 201313 yr Author Can't count on anything from Maysville. Sorry I was at the game last night and then had to drag out of bed for work today.
April 23, 201313 yr Author I believe last year it was 10 KO's for LaRosa's pizza and UDF ice cream. This year its 11 KO's for LaRosa's pizza. You have to think that next year it will be 13 KO's for Papa John's or Domino's haha! Free pizza after I spent the evening in the Champions Club stuffing down Pizza,Nachos, beer etc. NO THANKS

April 23, 201313 yr Will there be a Corky sighting tonight??? I'd say yes. He's a lot more familiar with Cigrani than Meso.
