Is There A Parent/Coach Issue at Boone County?

Featured Replies

This makes me so glad my parents stayed out of all the bullcrap of sports when I played. They just watched the games and that was it. As a coach for the last 14 years I can say this, this crap is getting old.

I had someone privately send me the following:

It isn't the Boone County Principal taking it to the Board. It is the player's parent, Pam Thamann, who is the Principal at Thornewilde Elementary. She is the one who is still trying to go after Todd.

They go way back together. Todd I think was one the older brothers AAU coach. I cannot think of the AAU Head Coach but the team had Austin Flannery, Andy Earls, and Ryan Popp. The older Thamann boy was pretty much cut when the team got to the high school age teams.

This says all I need to read right here, Pam Thamann, Let me tell you what kinda (insert the adjective you wish to use here) clown she is. Actually I won't, because I probably can not do it with in the rules of BGP. (pm me if you really want to know, I will be glad to tell you there.)

I feel sorry for any of you that have kids that go to Thornewilde, and she alone is a reason for BCS to have open enrollment.

Doesn't surprise me one bit that she is trying to get ride of someone (let alone from another school) speaks true colors of her character.

Why is the Boone principal washing his hands of this?

Clyde I am going to give the school administration side answer to this question. When there are issues with a parent and a coach, the first level is school administration, when that parent is an administrator themselves, or another school employee, it goes straight up to the next level. In other words 2 administrators with different opinions on matters like this never ends well.

Parents thinking their kids are better than they are is all this story amounts to. I absolutely detest whiny parents. You can't please everybody all of the time.

Thanks. Apologies to the Boone principal.

All of the boys you mentioned played for the KY Patriots coached by Kyle Tackett. Downs never coached that group in AAU.

If the JV Coach is the issue, having seen them a few times, I'm not shocked.

Not shocked either, I am not saying that he is a bad coach, but in AAU ball I have seen him tear a 5th grader to shreads, I'm no bleading heart liberal, but that is a little over the top.

Forgive the ignorant but who is "Todd"?

Todd Downs has been an assistant bb coach at Boone County for as long as I can remember. He has also coached extensively in AAU. He also coached my boys at Boone's basketball camps, and his son Bo played with my elder son in pee wee. From my experience, Todd is a really good guy and has done a lot to develop youth in Boone County.

When my boys were cut from their middle school bb teams, neither myself nor my spouse went to the coach/AD/admin to complain, we signed them up for swimming and they have loved it. Sometimes getting cut sends the message that you really need to be investing your time elsewhere.

Todd is not for everyone. Can coach though. You certainly know where you stand.

I've got no issue with him.

I don't think the majority of the players and parents have an issue with him either.

Played softball with Todd for many years. He is a fierce competitor and no nonsense guy. He is an old school coach that holds kids responsible for their actions. He may rip into a kid but I can guarantee he would be the 1st one patting that kid on the back or complementing him when the kid did something well. Really unfortunate he devotes his time to better these kids in all aspects of life and has to deal with this. Memo to disgruntled parents: just because you baby your kids, tell them how great they are and feed them with a silver spoon, don't expect coaches to do the same. The real world after high school is cruel and 99.9% of coaches prepare them for the real world by holding them responsible for their actions. Wish Todd and his family the best in this situation. Keep doing what your doing Todd because your changing kids life's and preparing them for their future.....better than some parents do...just my 2 cents
