Do you know how the rule book defines a carry? Having your hand on the side of the ball is not a carry. Your hand has to be under the ball and the ball has to come to a rest on your hand. Folks need to understand the rules better.

 

Actually, the position of the hand is not mentioned in the rulebook. It just says the ball cannot come to a rest.

You are correct. It was a great game, but the refs are part of the game. It is what it is! No poor sportsmanship, just BGP members stating their opinions.

 

... And me stating mine. From my perspective, aside from a few choice posts, this thread has been in most part rather lame considering what an exciting game it was. Thankfully there's a championship game today and this thread will soon drift on down stream and we'll be on to the Holmes/CovCath game thread hopefully discussing what a fantastic game that was.

No ref is going to give Cooper two foul shots, plus the ball, with less than a half a minute to go in a tie game, on a play 75 feet from the basket. REALLY! It's not a gift! It' the rule of the game. No matter of the clock time, the game still has to be called according to the "rules"; if you're doing your job as a ref.

Right. Like the hand check "foul" I saw decide an Illinois state championship game -- tie score with 4 seconds left.

 

This play was similar to the end of the Iowa State-Kansas game a week or so ago. You have to give a little leeway if the fouling player is flat on his back. Was he reaching for where thought the ball might be, or was he deliberately grabbing an ankle to impede progress?

 

You could blow a whistle or call a foul on every play, which is pretty much what happened in the second Holmes-Scott game. On that night, I attended a refereeing seminar and a basketball game broke out.

There is no lobbying for something as obvious as that flag aren't intentional foul. To think anything different than an intentional foul on that play tells us you don't know the rules, simple as that

I listened. I'm not arguing against the intentional. If it went off as described it should have been called.

 

I'm saying it could not be a flagrant foul.

If the Cooper fans still want to complain about the no call intentional...how about when Morgan GRABBED Bolden around the waist on a break away and essentially tackled him earlier in the game...Again, move on. If all you can point to is one call, your team obviously didn't do enough to win.

I am not sure so someone correct if I am wrong, but it seems to me Holmes usually has fewer fouls called on them than their opponent. It is the nature of their game and the way they play on both ends of the floor.

Holmes usually has two of the quickest kids on the floor which makes them harder to guard and more apt to be fouled. Tell me, would you rather guard a quick or slow kid?

I have to agree with Walter. Cooper had plenty of chances to put the game away but just couldn't get the baskets needed. They missed several contested shots down low which would have put Holmes away. You can't just single out just one call.

 

As a Cooper fan no one wanted to see the boys win more than me. They gave it their all and the game was a lot closer than expected by most. Cooper had a great season and I'm proud of all the boys, especially the seniors.

Holmes made the necessary plays to win, but there is no denying that Holmes appeared to get most of the close/questionable calls. It started at the very end of the 1st quarter when Holmes buried a 3 at the buzzer when it appeared he may have traveled before getting the shot up. He may not have walked, but if a walk would have been called nobody would have been shocked.

Walter, since you have put up the highlights of the game, why don't you put on the foul we are talking about here that some say should of been an intentional foul.

 

That would be a very good clip to post here.
