Statements like "worst I have seen in 41 years", either means you are blind or that your testimony is non-creditable.

I was at the game. Got my money's worth, as I usually do in the 9th Region. The refs were fine. I had no problem with the vast majority of the calls. Yeah, there were some questionable whistles, mostly on charges, but there's no way that ankle grab is an intentional foul. Not in a game of this magnitude. Bottom line: Holmes played one of its worst game of the year, yet still won. Bulldogs were outshot and outrebounded. Bulldogs' passing in the transition game was lousy. Cooper for the most part outhustled the Bulldogs for loose balls. Reminded me of the first three quarters of the first NewCath game. Englemon played on fumes most of the game after injuring his ankle early. Bolden shot, what, 30 percent from the field at best? Yet Holmes still found a way to win.

 

The main reason that Cooper lost (drum roll please) is that the Jags only scored 11 points from halftime till when Collins hit the trey with a minute to go. Eleven points in 15 minutes doesn't get the job done.

 

I think young Sullivan is one of the best high school coaches in the state. Only thing I would have done differently, if I were in his shoes, is have my guards attack the rim in the second half like they did at the end of the first half. Even if you miss, your bigs have better than 50% chance to get an offensive rebound.

 

Also thought the Cooper kid gave Bolden too easy of a (winning) shot at the end of the OT. If he's 4 feet beyond the arc, you don't have to stick a hand in his face?

 

I could care less about the refs. It is what it is right or wrong but I will tell you that you can say all you want about Holmes playing one of their worst games. I strongly disagree. It had to do with what Cooper has done all season long and that is play tough defense! Give credit where credit is due which is what I've done by giving the Dawgs credit for winning the game on a great shot. Coopers offense has not been a juggernaut all year but you'd know that if you knew anything about this team.

 

As for the great shot by Bolden over "the Cooper kid" who's name is Morgan, and the way he played defense on that play he played it the way he should have in my opinion. They are up by two and Bolden is at least 3-4 feet behind the arc. He played him the same way he played him all nite, staying in front of him and containing the drive and in fact coming up with 2 steals against him. "The Cooper kid" did an excellent job of guarding the best player in the region.

 

Again kudos to to Holmes for finding a way to win but Cooper was :12 and a loose ball from winning this game and I believe there were not many outside of Union who thought this game would even be close. Best of luck to Holmes.

Looking thru all of those pictures, I see Davin Barnett and Nathan Sutton but don't see the 3rd official from the 16th in any of them. I think Barnett and Sutton are both very good officials. Wondering if there was a charge call that was questionable if it wasn't Sublet as the other official from the 16th.

Agreed. Cooper played very good defense today and actually threw some different looks at Bolden/Holmes that others haven't used or used often, which was very effective in the first half as Bolden only had 4 pts at the half.

 

I posted on twitter that Morgan contested the shot very well and Bolden just made a tough shot over him...as you can see in the video I posted.

 

Cooper also killed Holmes on the boards in the first half. At one point, the Jags were outrebounding Holmes 18-6.

A coach told me before the game that he would affect the flow of the game more than he should (the ref), and he was spot on.

Mr. Sixer: Sorry if I offended. I certainly was wrong on one point. Upon watching the video replay, Morgan defended Bolden very well -- far stronger than I thought he did when I saw the game-winning trey in person from the upper deck. However, I stand by my comment that Holmes did not play well today. They didn't play well. They didn't rebound well; they didn't shoot well (29%); Bolden didn't shoot well; they struggled from the free-throw line (60%); and their transition game resulted in turnovers late in the game. Yes, the main reason for this is that Cooper is likely the best defensive team in the 9th Region.

If you're talking about the guy who looks like Mario, or Luigi, not sure which is which. Runs on his tip-toes then checks out his pants every time he stops, that's Shane Ramey. Not unusual for him to make a dramatic call so everyone can get a good look at him if he was the one.

I watched every second of the 16th region tournament, I couldn't possibly disagree more.

I remember what you are talking about. Bad call (imo) on a 3 at the state tournament.

You are right it is a grudge and I have seen much worse but I'm not even a Rowan fan and will never get over the fact that Pouncy robbed them of a state championship. The fact of the matter is everyone has their own opinion's on officials. You may think an official is horrible but others think he is great, thats just the way it is, and most of the time it comes back to past experiences in other words if you lost the game they were terrible but if you won then they weren't so bad.
