Come Walter I'm not a fan of either team and my team got beat in District. But the refs lost this game for Cooper I know you are a big Holmes supporter but if it was the other way around you are the worst cryer on here. You cried all year about the 10 region Refs on your thread. Holmes had a 6th man today and it was the refs. PERIOD

 

Holmes won because they have the best player in the region and he stepped up today and delivered. It's poor sportsmanship to blame the refs... PERIOD.

This is the fastest I've ever got through reading a 4 page thread (so far) on a great game. Every time I see the word "ref" in a post I filter and move on to the next post. In this thread it was like bam bam bam done. Nothing like making a great game seem dull with all the negative talk of the officiating. Hopefully by the time it gets to 8 pages it gets a little more interesting. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Bolden carrying the basketball majority of the time he has it goes uncalled way to much, don't get me wrong the kid is one heck of a player and is very clutch but carries a lot!

 

Do you know how the rule book defines a carry? Having your hand on the side of the ball is not a carry. Your hand has to be under the ball and the ball has to come to a rest on your hand. Folks need to understand the rules better.

I was at the game. Got my money's worth, as I usually do in the 9th Region. The refs were fine. I had no problem with the vast majority of the calls. Yeah, there were some questionable whistles, mostly on charges, but there's no way that ankle grab is an intentional foul. Not in a game of this magnitude. Bottom line: Holmes played one of its worst game of the year, yet still won. Bulldogs were outshot and outrebounded. Bulldogs' passing in the transition game was lousy. Cooper for the most part outhustled the Bulldogs for loose balls. Reminded me of the first three quarters of the first NewCath game. Englemon played on fumes most of the game after injuring his ankle early. Bolden shot, what, 30 percent from the field at best? Yet Holmes still found a way to win.

 

The main reason that Cooper lost (drum roll please) is that the Jags only scored 11 points from halftime till when Collins hit the trey with a minute to go. Eleven points in 15 minutes doesn't get the job done.

 

I think young Sullivan is one of the best high school coaches in the state. Only thing I would have done differently, if I were in his shoes, is have my guards attack the rim in the second half like they did at the end of the first half. Even if you miss, your bigs have better than 50% chance to get an offensive rebound.

 

Also thought the Cooper kid gave Bolden too easy of a (winning) shot at the end of the OT. If he's 4 feet beyond the arc, you don't have to stick a hand in his face?

The 16th has called the charge call all tourney long, all you would have to do is watch the games to know that and if they call it that way and they have consistently, then no one should complain.

 

Now after the CovCath game, I was sitting on the floor and quite frankly a Stripe should have "T" up a Cooper player in the 2nd quarter for dropping a "F" bomb on the Stripe. I was shocked that the stripe let it go as was everyone who was sitting along side of me. We all did a double take and looked at each other all asking the same question, did the kid say what I think he did to the Stripe and indeed we all agreed he did!

 

I think the only real bad call in my judgement was the Holmes player grabbing the Cooper player around the ankle! It clearly IMHO should have been a international foul giving Cooper two free throws and the ball.

 

Congrats to both team on a very entertaining and exciting game!

Anyone who reads / posts in this thread had better be ready to sift through posts about the refs.

 

This was an OT regional semi-final. Most of the calls being discussed could have changed the outcome. Lots on the line, so fans will vent. I know, I do it often.

 

I was not at the game, did listen on nkysports.com. It was exciting to say the least.

 

The intentional foul call rule needs to be looked at by those that set the standards. It seems that officials are very reluctant to make that call. It may be the severity of the penalty. It may be the interpetation of the rule, but it seems that officials seldom assess an intentional foul. In today's game it would have been the difference between a 1+1 bonus (which the front end was missed) and 2 shots and the ball. Since I was not at the game I did not see the play, but the announcers and several posters think the intentional was warranted.

The only reason this call is in dispute is because the Cooper kid tried to lobby the ref that this was an intentional foul. It wasn't. Please -- save the intentional foul calls for when someone is tackled going in for a layup. Heck, a lot of the refs don't even call those anymore.

You mean to tell me he didn't walk I was sitting on the Holmes side during this game and everyone around me manage to agree he did walk if your going to call that tap he got while being boxed out we might as well start playing YMCA basketball leagues again! Another thing the phantom foul once again had Holmes fans stating and I quote "what was the foul there!" And the intentional foul that went uncalled was absolutely terrible that gives cooper two shots and the ball late big change of events had the officials got that call right!

 

With all due respect, I was in the middle of the Holmes section for the entire game; if any Bulldog fans questioned those two calls in the manner you describe, they apparently spoke very softly and primarily in your direction. And even if your account were accurate, here is the bottom line: every close game is decided by an intricate set of factors and it would be best to focus on how well the players handled themselves under pressure. If the officiating was as poor as some believe, then these kids deserve even more respect since they were the ones being affected most directly. As spectators and adults, we should leave it at that.

Stay away from the refs people. Come on, there were calls both ways that were questionable. The biggest star in the tournament made the biggest shot of his career so far when it mattered. Coaching was great both ways. Great defense by both teams. I was rooting for the winner of this game regardless of the winner. If Holmes couldn't have gone, I was hoping a Holmes grad could have. This was the second time all year I rooted against Cooper. Tim Sullivan is nothing but class. I was hoping we would have been the coach at Holmes when Henley left but glad he got a great job and is starting to succeed. Wish him nothing but the best.

Welcome to our world guys with the officiating. Ninth region officials were much better with the exception of Pouncy he is by far the worst I have ever seen in 41 years of watching basketball.

I watched every second of the 16th region tournament, I couldn't possibly disagree more.

He foul the holmes player before he got the ball and they didnt call it so it was the right call
