Regardless of age, kid is pretty damn good.

For now I will take Dicky Beal. Absolutely one of the top 5 players to ever play in NKY in my opinion. The Beetle has 2 more years to try and accomplish what Dicky Beal did in his time at Holmes but he is certainly a fine player and could prove me wrong over the 2 years.

How many points did Beal score in his career? Not comparing the two, but just curious.

 

As of today, Bolden has scored 607 points this year. He will enter the 1,000 point club most likely toward the end of his jr year.

 

I don't know if he is the best to ever play at Holmes but I'd assume he will be somewhere in the top 5 when it's all said and done.

It's the new norm.... Is not Brandon Hatton already 18, or nearly so? Go to any AAU tournament, and you almost cannot compete if you don't have at least a couple of hold backs. Hatton is gonna break Scott Draud's scoring record next year, but Draud would have put up another 900 points if he'd had another year. Like it or hate it, its the way it is.

Beal was awesome, but I think Bolden has tremendous upside. Beal should have gone to DePaul. Bolden has two more years with a target on his back in high school. He has handled himself with class to this point and don't see that changing. Beal was the past. Bolden is the future!

Why Depaul? Regional MVP and a Final four while at KY. Way more exposure. Injured knee could have happened any where.

Also, he did not play on any high school teams during middle school to add to his high school scoring count.

Didn't Beal really make a name for himself playing Junior Pro Basketball in Newport where he was a teammate of Bill Blasingame? Also had Phil Davis and Ricky Walton among others. I will take those teams against any and all takers as they were very special indeed. I saw many of Beal's games back in those days as a youth and saw them score 70 to 80 points with no problem at all. Ended up winning several National Junior Pro titles. Best basketball in Northern Kentucky was played at the Boy's Club back in the day IMO.

Seems like he always wants to go left where Dicky could go left, right , forward and backwards from about age 8. I was 11th man on the junior varsity team you mentioned and for life me can't remember a Blasingame. Starting five were Beal, walton, and Davis from Holmes. David Bedford from Newport and Rich Dees from Highlands. Vaguely remember a Mcgurn, Uehlien, and Wrobleski as well. Having had the fun of guarding or more like chasing Beal as a senior, after one viewing of Bolden today, I'd rather chase him even at age 51. Maybe if Dicky was a young 17, guess he could of played junior pro another year with a Blasingame playing on that team?

I believe that Beal was a youngster on that team. Blasingame may have been one year later. I had a relationship to one of the coaches of those teams in Newport. Strong/strong basketball. David Bedford was a man amongst boys in that tourney. Mike McGurn went to Bellevue, Steve Uehlein went to NC I believe and Jim Wrobleski went to Dayton. I believe this team also had Mike Queen and maybe Joe Conley who attended Highlands. First of several teams from Newport Boys Club that went down to the Nationals in Knoxville and came home with the big prize.

Dicky moonlighted with several teams. I played on the KC Boys Club with Greg Kordenbrock and remember Dicky and Ricky Walton coming along for a tourney in Dayton OH. I certainly didn't mind being moved farther down the bench after bringing home that trophy.

I bet it was hard to find minutes on that team with Beal, Walton, Kordenbrock, Mike McCullough, Wendell Allen, Charlie Bledsoe, Brett Lovell, .....
