James Bolden or Dickie Beal???

Featured Replies

Doug Shlomer played after Dickie Beal.

Incorrect. Doug graduated in 78. Dickie graduated in 80.

I apologize' date=' you are correct Clyde.[/quote']

No problem, my man. Just happens to be in "my era."

Mine too. That's what happens when you get on in years, your memory goes first and I don't care what they say.

Dickie started for Kentucky and played in the NCAA Final 4. James Bolden has a looooooong way to go to reach that kind of success. I will go with Dickie.

(I have a Cov. Cath. buddy who played in the late 70's against Doug Schloemer and Dickie. He maintains that as great as those 2 were, the Bulldog who caused the Colonels the most consternation was Bud Wimzie.)

Can't talk about the great Holmes teams of the late 70's without posting the pic of the worst non-call in the history of the KHSAA:

They truely got robbed!

Dickie Beal starred at UK & Holmes. Not even close IMO.

I don't know anything about Bolden but he'd have to be great to be as good as Beal. Granted, Beal has some holes in his game (shooting for one) but he was so quick at major college level. BTW, is Bolden as good as Anthony Hickey?

The most exciting 9th region player I've seen since the 70s is Dicky Beal. Bolden is right there.

I was there at Freedom Hall with my next door neighbors Tony and Dewey Litmer. I was headed to Holy Cross the following fall and hated Holmes, but I rooted my tail off for Dickey Beal. No one better and that ranking will stand for a while. Can we have a rule that no one can comment unless they actually saw Dickey play? And I was on the same court with him when I was 10 years old and he played for NKCCYC while he put up 30 at Turners. I had the best seat in the house! I believe the coach was Governor Housely.

Doug graduated in 1978. Dickie in 1980.

Did Doug Schlomer play with Dickie Beal or different times?

Bolden is very good, but I had the pleasure to play with Dicky for 2yrs in high school and he is the best I have ever seen.

Dickie filled the stands of the Kenton County Boy's Club with people coming to watch him play at age 9. Nicest guy in the world.

I remember Governor coaching Dickie's NKCC games Saturday mornings at 9:00 am in a suit, tie and spit polished shoes. The man had swag. We used to love playing his teams (although we usually got clobbered). By the way, Governor was in Suite 112 on Tuesday night watching Holmes vs. NewCath. I say hi every time I see Mr. Housley. He has no idea who I am.

I was at this game in Freedom Hall in the fold-up chairs in the end where this goal was, front row. When I saw Charlie Hurt put his hand up through the net, I damn near bolted onto the floor over the non call. Everyone in the place saw it.
