I agree if the role was reversed Trinity would do the same thing. And I don't look at it as being "scared." I think Cincy X and Elder are making smart business decisions here.

 

On playing someone closer to home, I am not sold that is always the case and even if it is the case it normally isn't going to be a team that will give X or Elder 1st level points and between 7 and 9 wins.

 

 

That is kind of how I would look at it too, I highly doubt either school is "scared" of Trinity since both have beaten the Rocks before and on a handful of occasions beaten them badly.

^ Ohio should go back to getting into the playoffs using district wins/losses, then you can schedule whoever you like.

 

Ohio has never determined playoff qualifiers based on district wins/losses. There are no districts in Ohio, only conferences, and four regions per class.

 

I like the Harbin system a lot, especially for a state Ohio's size. It almost always gets the playoff participants right. I can see an arguement being made for second level points being added for all opponents instead of only opponents you have beaten. That may open up more scheduling opportunties for schools, but I haven't really looked at it closely enough if it would be a good "tweak".

Kentucky would be better served by either going to a three or four class system, or only allowing two from each district into the playoffs.

Not sure who canceled the game but I am just surprised any of these teams would want to. X and Elder don't duck anyone and have trouble filling a ten game schedule game every year. Trinity has trouble finding games - heck, they may only play 9 or LESS this year. It costs less for the Cincy schools to go to Louisville than Cleveland, where they each go most years. I just don't get this one at all.

Personally, I loved playing Trinity. However, I have to admit the officiating at the end of the game last year left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope the series continues in the future.

Please explain Trinity's 2007 14-1 state championship run. St. Xavier scheduled Trinity and defeated them 47-31, despite trailing 23-17 at halftime. Seems your assumption is completely off! Explain the year Elder went 2-8 and Trinity trounced them worse than any team in history. I guess Elder wasn't certain they were going to win since they never won after week 2. Maybe St. Xavier and Elder like to mix it up a little. This year would be a year they may think they'd be certain to win. St. X has 18 experienced players returning (11 starters) including QB, 2 RBs, 1 WR/CB, most of OL and DL and secondary. Yet X did not schedule them. I'm not saying that is the reason (mix it up) but there would be no reason for X to cancel playing at X, with most of last year's team back that only lost in the final seconds by 1. It's obviously not because they think they'd lose.

 

It was fun and I hope they renew it in the near future. It is a great OOS rivalry.

Let's see, my words were almost certain which I stand by. Plus singling out one year doesn't make a case. Additionally, until recently the Bombers and Panthers were almost certain they would beat any team from KY any year, now that has changed. Also, when it comes to teams like Cincy X and Elder sometimes they may have to break away from the almost certain to win mantra because they are Alpha Predators and they can struggle to fill their schedule.
