I heard directly from Coach Specht's mouth last night that the decision to not schedule Trinity was his decision as he makes final decisions on the schedule. He said it had nothing to do with being scared or intimidated by anyone and if anything, he laughed at the notion. It was purely due to the Harbin system and the fact that Trinity and St. Edwards share too many common opponents with X and it makes the tier two Harbin points problematic. By scheduling other teams with more variety in their schedule it makes obtaining those points easier.

This makes sense. You can't say that you are "scared" of Trinity and then pick up Ben Davis AND Warren Central.

The same issue. Basically, a Cincy X or Elder wants to play a Trinity without seeing other GCl schools (or in the Bombers case the GCL schools AND Colerain all of which are already on the Bombers schedule) on Trinity's schedule. Said another way, GCL schools want to play Trinity during a season when Trinity is not playing any common opponents. Example, the Bombers beat Trinity and beat Colerain during a season when the Bombers and Trinity also play say Colerain. The Bombers will get their level 1 points from the straight out wins against Colerain and Trinity BUT when Trinity and Colerain play there has to be a loser. So, the Bombers will only get level 2 points from the winner of the Colerain/Trinity game and not from the loser of that game (for that game only). It gets kinda maddening after a while....a whole Harbin industry has sprung up as a result of this system. It seems kinda silly to worry about level 2 points until you barely squeek in to the playoffs as was the case for the Bombers last year.

The Bombers dropped St. Eds for the same reason. St. Eds plays Elder, Moeller and Cincy St. X. Trinity plays Elder, Cincy St. X and Indy Cathdral. It's all due to Harbins and how Cincy St. X squeezed into the playoffs in 2010 and 2012, all depending on points from defeating Lou St. X those 2 years.

While I agree that is the issue for X, for Elder I think it leans more in the direction of we need to soften our schedule just a bit.

A couple times Harbins have bumped the Panthers out of the playoffs. After a their 2-8 record in 2011, I think they had to tone it down a bit (played 5 defending state champions of 2010).
