The real irony is this thread started out as a discussion about X and Trinity and was quickly taken over by the birds like so many other threads. The funny thing is the birds won't man up and play either X or Trinity, yet openly discuss in other threads their desire for national prominence.

All parties may be telling their version of the truth. I have no doubt that Trinity tried to keep the two Cincinnati schools on their schedule, they need games as it seems that they are having a hard time filling a 10 game schedule. I will refer to Cincinnati St. X as the Bombers in an attempt to eliminate the problem of St. X vs St. X and which one I am mean. If what is reported above is correct (and I have no reason to doubt it) the Bombers, do not seem to have needed to keep Trinity on their schedule, as they have a full schedule. The Bombers, realizing that Trinity is having a problem with filling a 10 game schedule may have seen this as their advantage and made demands for money, date or other perks that Trinity was not willing to meet, thus, in the mind of the Bombers' AD, they did not drop Trinity, the deal just could not be made.

 

As for Elder, after the thumping that the Panthers took at the Pit in 2011, they may have actually dropped Trinity as they may have felt that it was not to their advantage to continue the series. No one on here has said otherwise.

 

Because of the Harbin System, ALL games played by Ohio teams count toward their making and seeding in the playoffs. There are around 32 teams in the OHSAA Region 4 with only eight making the playoffs. Thus, the Ohio teams need games against teams that they feel they have a good chance to beat and earn Harbin points as a loss does not do them any good. If Elder does not feel that they have a chance to win against Trinity in 2013 or 2014, then they may choose to look elsewhere. On the other hand, in Kentucky, Trinity is already in the KHSAA playoffs, even if they go winless.

This makes the most sense. I truly believe both sides wanted something the other couldn't agree to. This makes the most sense. Sully has already said that St. X does not cancel anyone. I am sure Trinity is the same.

The fact that Trinity still has some open dates and the Bombers have a full schedule tells the story before we even ask anyone. I don't know who you get your know from (I'm sure he/she is reliable) but I get mine from people who talk to the AD and seldom from my own conversations with him. Well, whatever happened! Being that the Bombers finished 6-4 and just edged their ways into the playoffs (because of Harbin points), I can see them dropping Trinity. On the other hand, the game would have been in Cincinnati @ X, and St. X has many of their key players returning so I don't know why they would drop someone when they are reloaded. Is Trinity supposed to have a bad year in 2013? Other schools have dropped opponents due to not getting many Harbin points from that team. For example, Elder and St. X dropped:

Even in a bad year Trinity figures to win six or seven games and most years 8 to 10. If defeated, Trinity is a Harbin Cow.

 

For X, I think it is a complex formula between how good Trinity figures to be the next couple of years, how good X figures to be, and what opponents each of them both play thus reducing X's overall potential for Harbin points even in a victory. If I am not being clear here, think of Ohio teams in big leagues that only get to play a couple of outside league games. In the league, everyone beats everyone so you have a limited number of Harbin points available. In the case of Trinity and Cincy X, if they both play a lot of the same teams the same issue crops up. I am sure this was very calculated on X's part and I think they made a great business decision.

I certainly don't believe you are being serious but just in case bad move for both teams. Boone is coming off their worst season ever, there is no way they would think of playing someone like Cincy X and since Boone only won one game last year Cincy X scheduling and beating Boone doesn't make good business sense.

I don't buy that these teams are scared to play Trinity. Trinity has exactly 1 school in the state of Kentucky that is similar to it. These games, win or lose, have no bearing on Trinity's ability to make the playoffs in Kentucky. Year in year out, Trinity would be lucky to make it out of the GCL unscathed. If the roles were reversed, Trinity would not be trying to schedule Elder or St. X. Also, Elder or X can find a school that is closer to play them, why would they choose to play a school 2 hours away?

 

Louisville St X is a few miles farther away. Brentwood Academy is a little more of a trip. Indy publics? Less "offensive" recenty..

These teams are not scared to play Trinity. As Guru pointed out, it was a business decision. Brentwood has been trying to schedule St. X for a couple years now. Since the Herbstreit Classic became a flop, teams like Don Bosco and Brentwood and several Indiana teams and the Lou powers have come to Ohio to play. Recently, unless OH bordered a state, they were not able to do a home-home because OH teams were not permitted to go past a bordering state. Now that ban has been lifted as competition has developed to a national level. They are now able to leave OH and go across other states outside of Tournament events (like the Herbie). The Harbin system is also a joke. If it wasn't for this lame system, there would be no worries. But because it matters, being 5-5 will not get you into the playoffs. Even being 6-4 is flurting with danger. Colerain went 8-2 in 2009 and LaSalle went 8-2 in 2005. Both teams missed the playoffs because of the Harbin system. It's obviously faulty.
