Has Chuck Smith applied at Boone County?

Featured Replies

A lot of this is simply NOT TRUE. First, Boyle's facilities were not new. Heck, they just got the turf 3? years ago. Before that, Boyle's field was probably the worst in the area. They still don't even have a fieldhouse, for crying out loud. Aside from the turf, their facilities are not very good, still.

And they were not, nor have they ever been, in a one school district. Have you never heard of Danville High School? By the way, for all of Coach Smith's run, Danville had a 300 win coach that was winning State Championships, as well. The thing that a lot of people don't know about Danville is that the Danville Independent School District actually extends beyond the city's borders.

You are right about the administration wanting a winner. But, I think Smith would have to be convinced of that before he takes ANY job.

You contradict yourself. And prove that I am right. Boyle County Schools has one high school. Danville is an Independent District. Being a one school system, as opposed to Boone which has four high schools, all of your energy and resources go to that one school. There are no others to consider. If you buy for one do you have to do the same for others. He'll Boone turned down a free turf field because they could not provide the same for their other schools. It's like having one child vs four.

Please don't tell me about Boyle's lack of facilities. I have been to many games at Boyle and the Bermuda there was nice. The facilities are very good. A field house! A field house for heavens sake. You need to get out and see what bad facilities are.

Ryle took the free turf not caring about the other 3.

Is Chuck Smith really that good? He won a couple titles in AA. Those teams were fortunate they were down in Class from the Jared and Gino Highlands teams. No way they beat Highlands. Then Boyle moved up to AAA. He catches a lucky break because Highlands is in a rare 3 year lean cycle. Highlands recovers and beats him twice his last year when he had a bunch of returning players including his son at QB. He then bolted for UK. UK was terrible and he wasn't able to do enough to help Joker keep his job. Good coach, nice record, but hardly the savior.

If he goes to Boone, I see a bunch of 6-4 and 7-3 seasons. Maybe a rare 8-2 with exits to Trinty, Scott Co, or X in the playoffs every year. Basically nothing different from what we see now. I do think he could avoid the real bad years like 2-8 and 4-6.

That might be the biggest cup of hater-ade I've ever seen poured.

That is incorrect. BCPS said no because Shaun Alexander's generous offer did not cover the entire cost. Had it been enough Boone would have taken it.

I know it is way off topic, but I saw Alexander's name and it reminded me of something I heard last week. Shaun's nephew is enrolled in the Ft Thomas School system, will he have some of Shaun's genes and help lead the Birds to another title in the future? One thing is for sure, all the haters will talk about how Highlands illegally recruited him.

That might be the biggest cup of hater-ade I've ever seen poured.

You ain't lying....

I think Coach Smith is that good, but I would also question catching lightning in the bottle a second time, there is a reason he is revered as one of the best, no one else has ever done what he done at Boyle as far as turning nothing into something. But credit also needs to be given to Boyle County kids, parents, and administration who let him coach his way.....Finding a place like that is rare these days. Anyone in the area of familar with Boyle knows there was no cutting corners or 2 hour practices those days. I would think Chuck would even admit that. Then add in having to beat Trinity and X, not sure you will see Boone County in the mix consistently in that aspect. However who would be a better hire????

Depending on who you talk to he has.

I will say this, if Chuck Smith gets the Boone job and is given the proper support, Boone will dominate NKY and five to ten years down the road they should be ready to compete with T and X on a regular basis.

Anyone?

Disagree! Boone County would have start developing good QB's and that would take along time and some type of passing game.

Would love to see him go there. It would be really nice to have NKY 6A become more of a force than they have been. He would raise up Boone and force the others in the district to step up their game. That can only be a good thing.

Whoever takes over at Boone has a lot of work to do. There is no established feeder system. Relations with the parents and boosters needs to be established, and in some sense repaired. Field and conditioning facilities need to be upgraded. Despite the talent in this jr class at Boone, I don't see over night success regardless of who takes over. A QB takes 3 years min to develop , and it needs to start at the feeder level.

Add to that we are already a month into off season conditioning with spring football around the corner with no hire in place for several weeks yet. Expectations need to be contained to a reasonable level.

An outsider in this job would be real culture shock at Boone.

They have 3 7-8 grade teams feeding the school. Plus, find me one perrinnial 6A, 5A, 4A that have "feeder" teams and by feeder I mean running everything the high school does.

It does not take a minimum of 3 years to develop a qb. It takes a commitment to train the qb and a comprehensive plan to do it.

We will have to agree to disagree here.

Ru, I know your excited about the prospect of what might be, but don't let that cloud your better judgement. Use your training. Stay calm. Think things through. Rational calculated decisions.

I know that you are aware that Boyle did not become Boyle overnight. Circumstances at Boone are not what they were at Boyle 15, 20 years ago. Boyle then was a one high school district with an administration hell bent on building a winning program. Brand new facilities and support in every imaginable way. Today's Boone county is nothing like that.

If Chuck is looking to find that type of situation at Boone he will be sorely disappointed.

What Chuck will find is a chance to compete annually. In good years he will make a deep playoff run. If Chuck spins magic, in the right year he can compete with the likes of T,X,& H.

Our worlds have different colored skies...
