Has Chuck Smith applied at Boone County?

Featured Replies

The Birds weren't very good by Highlands standards from 01-03. No way Boyle beats Gino's teams in 99 and 2000. They were playing demolishing good teams and playing tight/close games with big schools like Elder, etc while Boyle was beating directional county.

Again, go back and see who Boyle was playing in those seasons and the talent they had that went on to play at colleges and Universities. Just FWIW: the only losses Lex Cath suffered in '99 and '00 were to Boyle (twice each season). In '00 alone the Rebels blasted the Admirals 47-0 for their only loss as they went on to win Class A.

In '00 HHS defeat 8 teams that posted winning seasons. They played great competition particularly when you cite Trinity and Elder. In that same season Boyle played 10 teams with winning records. That's 8 games out of 15 for the Birds that season and 10 out of 15 for the Rebels. Boyle also defeated the Class A champion while the Birds defeated the AAAA runner-up.

I'm sure the Birds would have been favored but not by the margin you believe. Again, look at the data and the players. (Also Boyle played the '00 season without their Sophomore WR after the 4th game. Some kid named Jacob Tamme)

Highlands and Cov Cath?

FTJFL from what I understand does not run the same system as the high school. At least that is what I get from my conversations with Coach Mueller.

From what I have seen of CCH youth they do a little.

Those are the rules for the FTJFL. According to the rules they are suppose to run a version of the HHS offense and defense. How strictly that is enforced or what exactly that means I have no idea but its at least in the rules. Lexington Catholic I believe attempts to run close to what the HS runs. I believe the team that feeds John Harden does run the same stuff. Bowling Green's middle school runs the same stuff as their HS. I know a number of smaller schools do as well

Bowling Green's middle school runs the same stuff as their HS. I know a number of smaller schools do as well

I know for a fact that BG middle school runs nothing the same as BG high. Completely different offense and defense. Nothing is even close to the same in any way.

You contradict yourself. And prove that I am right. Boyle County Schools has one high school. Danville is an Independent District. Being a one school system, as opposed to Boone which has four high schools, all of your energy and resources go to that one school. There are no others to consider. If you buy for one do you have to do the same for others. He'll Boone turned down a free turf field because they could not provide the same for their other schools. It's like having one child vs four.

Please don't tell me about Boyle's lack of facilities. I have been to many games at Boyle and the Bermuda there was nice. The facilities are very good. A field house! A field house for heavens sake. You need to get out and see what bad facilities are.

Of course the facilities have improved since they have been winning state championships... Duh! Still, the stadium was/is nothing special. Their weight facilities and locker rooms were small and cramped (although I think they may have done a little remodeling since Coach French has been there). And I guess in all your experiences on Boyle County's field, you must have never been there during or after rain. The field never drained properly and was a constant source of trouble for the program.

And since you seem convinced of the advantages of Boyle's one school district, you should probably factor in the fact that the median household income in Boone County is double that in Boyle County. Which means wealthier parents, higher property values, and thus, more school-tax revenues.

Regardless, you were, AT BEST, using disputable "facts" to try to downplay an outstanding football coach's accomplishments. Don't know why you can't give the man his due - Boyle was at the bottom of the heap when Chuck Smith got there, and he won SIX state championships with them.

Then again, haters gon' hate.

Where in anything that I have ever written have you seen me say anything negative about Chuck Smith. Now you have me classified as a 'hater.' You criticize what you called my 'disputable facts,' and in the next sentence cite Chuck's six,....sorry you said," SIX state championships."

My point is simply that if Chuck were to take the Boone job he will not find the favorable conditions that existed during his tenure at Boyle.

I fully understand the economic differences between Boone and Boyle Counties. You said the median hosehold income was double in Boone compared to Boyle. Though there is a disparity it is not double. If you had any understanding of school economics you would know that the Kentucky Education Reform Act of 1990 has wrecked havoc on Boone County Schools economically. In the 23 years of KERA Boone County Has been the fastest growing county in the state of KY. With that they have built two new high schools, middle schools and numerous elementary schools, as well as additions to existing schools. All at a cost exceeding $100 million dollars. All the while the state of KY continues to take more tax dollars from Boone County than it spends there. With added income comes added cost of living. Simply said, Boone County has no financial advantages to offer and in fact is terribly constrained by finances. I could go on but that is for another forum.

When someone does not share your opinion it does not make them a 'hater.' I have conversed with Chuck Smith many times and have all of the respect in the world for him. Hate is a strong word and one that could seldom be applied to me. Please go back and review my posts and find hate. It's not there.

I hope that Chuck is offered and accepts the Boone job. I think for Boone to change in ways that are necessary they need a guy with the track record, conviction, and coaching style to make that change happen. I expect that Boone would be successful in ways that they have not experienced often. I feel that with Chuck at the helm that Boone could, in an exceptional year, they could actually win a state title. Something they could not accomplish with their best effort featuring one of KY's greatest ever players. Pardon me for thinking that it is not an automatic that a level of success that has only occurred twice before is impending with Chuck and Boone county.

This is why I don't think Chuck Smith will be back coaching in high school again. Smith is a great coach, but coming back to high school coaching and not duplicating the success he had at Boyle Co. those last 6-7 years would really be anti climatic for both him and the school that hires him. It is better to be the "ghost of greatness" for the rest of your existance than to prove you're a mortal.

I agree. You hear talk of Chuck coming back to Boyle after French, but I just don't see it. Would like to! Just don't think it will ever happen. Nothing to gain and everything to lose.

If he wants a full state pension he will be somewhere.

That might be the biggest cup of hater-ade I've ever seen poured.

Some Birds fans are insufferable, this is why I call them Hubris Heights. Can't help themselves from jacking every thread.

He doesn't have to coach to get his pension. I've heard that Chuck wants a administration job.

True but doesn't the higher salary you get with the additional duties of coaching mean bigger pension?

I didn't read this whole post. I got to the part where you said Chuck would walk in to less than favorable conditions at Boone than he had when he took over at Boyle and I just want to know how you know that for sure. When Chuck took over at Boyle the band was way more popular than the football team and Chuck had to take the time to create the favorable conditions that are at Boyle now. Chuck built that. He didn't walk right in to favorable conditions at Boyle at all. There was nothing easy about his initial 3-5 years at Boyle County whatsoever.

Not if they pass the new bill that will no longer account for add on stipends to the state pension fund. IE only the base teacher pay will count towards retirement fund.

Please read the whole post. My post said that Chuck enjoyed favorable conditions during his tenure. That does not in any way mean that he walked into anything, good or bad. It means that the conditions during his tenure were better than what they are, and can be over the foreseeable future at Boone. That has nothing to do with Chuck's ability. It has everything to do with constraints, mostly financial, that do and wii exist at Boone. Boone will win more with Chuck than they have of late because Chuck is a better coach than Rick. He is a better coach than Owen for that matter ( here comes more fury my way). The football situation is better at Boone now than it was at Boyle then. The football future will be better with Chuck than it has been. My only point, and the one that some folks take exception to, is that the level of success that Chuck had at Boyle will not be repeated at Boone. There are a great number of factors as to why and I have covered some of them. Please stop taking that as a shot at Chuck. It has nothing to do with him.

Again, read the whole post.

I never took it as a shot at Chuck. I just wanted it to be known that Chuck had it rough at Boyle in the beginning.
