January 18, 201313 yr Here is what I think happened based on everything I've read. Te'o starts online relationship with this girl. He's embarrassed for people to find out he is dating this girl but has never met her so he lies and says they've met. Tuiasosopo starts getting nervous as Te'o gains popularity and his story garners national attention so he kills off the girlfriend thinking that would end it. When it only makes it worse Tuiasosopo decides in Dec to let Te'o know he was duped hoping that would end it. Te'o being really embarrassed now continues with lie until late Dec when for what ever reason he figures he will be found out and let's ND know about the truth. It's also possible Te'o found out shortly after her supposed death but was caught up in the attention and played it out. Either way I'm not sold Te'o was in on it but definitely guilty of lying for at least a couple of months at worst several months.

I am a huge ND fan, and I'll admit that I believe that this may be true as well. Fun to live in such a jaded society, but corruption and falls from grace have made it so.
