Where he messed this up is sitting back and playing along as the media played this out as a "once in a lifetime" romance. He then elaborated on the story. He certainly did embellish their relationship. He called her the love of his life and said she was the most beautiful person he'd ever met.

Yet ND says they had an investigation? Were we not told by ND that there was an investigation? LOL!

This was what makes me believe most that he was in on it. The "love of your life dies" gets in a car crash and you don't go see her. Then she dies and you don't go to the funeral or anything.

I didn't really think that ND did a full investigation, and being that they are a private school, you can't really prove one way or the other that they did if they don't want too.

Agreed! But they said they did, yet Te'o says they only asked to see her pictures and that was it, no other questions, no interview.

It's possible the investigator got most of the info from ND. Who knows...

From what I've heard ESPN doesn't pay. Other places probably do but I don't know.

Bomani Jones said on his podcast there is no way we can find out if ND truly hired an investigator. He also said do you want to trust a University with a history of lying/shady tactics to cover up wrongs from the football program? Looks like that question has been answered.
