If many of the things being reported are true I don't think people who believe he wasn't in on it are naive at all. A lot of people spoke to this person on the phone and saw Te'o doing it as well.

 

Another if, but if the show Catfish is accurate and not fake, it makes it believable that this happened. Just surprising that it happened to a high profile person like Manti Te'o.

The attention seeker angle is the only one that makes sense, but I don't think he goes this far just for attention. He's the best defensive player on ND, he was going to get attention.

Had he not gotten caught he could have rode the dead girlfriend for a substantial amount of time. She has to be dead because when he goes pro she would HAVE to be at the draft. No excuses for not being there or surrounded by cameras in her hospital bed if she is alive.
