Still getting used to the new gym. Watched some kids, 3 of them, probably early 20's and in pretty good looking shape spend an HOUR on the same exact bench press. Just kind of made me laugh, because it works for a while but if you want to stay looking good spending your entire gym session at one bench press isn't going to cut it. It made me laugh though because I remember when my friends and I did the exact same thing.

What time do you start? Good luck and stay cool!

Started at 7:00 so I was up by 4:00 to make the drive. It was toasty the final 50 miles or so minus an odd 5 mile stretch where it rained on us. Ended up averaging just under 20 mph for a total ride time of 5:02. Stopped twice and was back at the truck by 12:15. Had intentions of running a couple miles after the ride but my socks were soaked from the rain.

Anyone have any suggestions on goggles for swimming? not too expensive but i know i get what i pay for. I wear contacts so getting any water in my eyes is really a pain in the butt.

I really have no god advice. I've bought expensive goggles that leak immediately and $10 goggles I will use for months. All just in what fits you best.

Agreed. My college frosh daughter has been on swim teams since age 5. Finding the best fitting goggles was always trial and error. I would suggest not spending a lot on one pair because chances are you might be buying a few before you find the best fit.

Need advice.

Weight training before or after cardio?

Weight training every day or every other day?

Alternate days with cardio and weights?

Or cardio every day and add weights every other day?

Thanks for the advice guys. May check out Walmart or Dicks today and see what I can find.

As for your questions hoops5. I've always heard/read that doing cardio at the end is the way to go. Typically when I go to the gym I warm up on the bike or elliptical doing about a miles distance to get the heart rate up(blood circulating well) and a bit loose. Then do my weight training and wrap it up with the elliptical or treadmill for a few miles.

One thing I will say and everyone is different so it's really just a preference for me, I typically avoid running too much after doing lower body weights. Reason being is with fatigue from weights I know it can cause me to maybe not have the best form or purest form which could lead to possible injury. Really just depends on your workout if you're just doing 2-3 lower body lifts I'm sure you'll be fine. I just typically stick to the elliptical on lower body days.

^Thanks, sportsfan41!

I just finished two rounds of Insanity---so that's 4 months worth--just sayin! :dancingpa:

I like the Insanity workouts! But I'm not done yet......

So I think I will try something like this---

Monday---30 minutes of weights, 40 minutes of month 1 Insanity.

Tuesday--60 minutes of month 2 Insanity

Weds---same as Monday

Thursday---same as Tues

Friday--same and Monday

Weekends--TBA

can do everyday, just not same muscle group 2 days in a row.

Add rest days as needed.

We did Hotshot 19 this morning at CrossFit. It is a hero workout create as a tribute to the 19 firefighters that lost their lives in Arizona fighting the wildfires.

6 Rounds for time

30 Air Squats

19 Power Cleans 135lbs

7 strict pull ups

400 meter run

It really depends on how mentally tough you are. I CAN NOT do cardio after lifting. I put a lot into my lifts and have very little left to do cardio. Cardio, for me, is sprinting or an Insanity DVD. I can't sit on a treadmill or just jog. So, I have to sprint and then go into my leg workout. It is the only way for me, especially w/ my time constraints. Additionally, if you can get away w/ it, I would try to split them b/n morning and evening. You'll get more out of both. Ideally, that's what I'd like to do, but I can't make myself wake up to do sprints.

As for the above, if you want to give yourself both days off over the weekend, that would be a great move. If you can't take more than one day off, I'd go with a 3 days on (m,t,w) followed by the 4th day off and repeat that cycle.

Weights then Max cardio circuit.

And the rest of you?

It's 9-11. Put in a good workout today because you can. Do it for yourself and for all those who can't.

Very cool, hoops5.

Got my swim in this morning and planning on a bike ride this evening though it has started pouring down rain.

Friday morning I am going to run 16 miles and do anywhere from 66-100 miles biking on Sunday. Just another day at the office.

Alright, so I don't frequent this thread very often unless it's to tempt you all with all kinds of fatty food. :lol2: But I need some assistance...

I've been walking almost every day for about two months. Our street is about 0.9 of a mile in length up & back, so I'll walk between 5.5 & 7.5 miles every day. I have a huge blister on my left heel that has gone from being little more than a nuisance to now a really painful thing. I've always worn two pairs of socks & have a good pair of shoes (Reebok Zigs). This past week I have placed a large band-aid over the spot & then put some layers of athletic tape over the band-aid. While that keeps the blister from bleeding/bursting, it makes it really painful to walk. So tonight I just went with the band-aid & while there was still discomfort, it didn't hurt badly like it did with the tape. But when I took my shoes & socks off, my heel was a bloody mess. I've got a huge hole in my heel now. :lol2:

So I'm looking for advice on what to do. Suck it up & stay with the tape, even though it's almost unbearable to walk? Different pair of shoes--would high tops help? Something else?

Any help is appreciated. I have to keep this up, partially because it's good for me & I feel much better...partially because I've gone from 197 to 168. Thanks in advance. :thumb:

:thumb:   Congratulations!! 5.5 to 7.5 miles of walking every day is fantastic!

For the blister....my daughter had a cluster of warts removed on the side of her foot. The doctor gave her these thick adhesive "felt" fabric things that kind of have a horseshoe shape. The idea being the the cut out area goes on top of the blister, so the friction would go to the thick pad. She likes to run, so she wore that while she was healing.

You could probably get something similiar at Walgreens or CVS, even if you had to cut a hole for the blister.

Is the blister right at the top of the shoe where the shoe hits the heal? There are also pads that you can stick right inside the shoe for that.

Good Luck! Report back!
