JCVD's workout info he e-mailed me and FKYW's posts about box jumps got me doing them today. I didn't go quite as high as FKYW's 36" I just did 24" but I did 3 sets of 10 including one set with a 25 lb weight in my hand. We used to do those back in the day for football but I don't remember them wearing me out quite like that, then again we used to only jump like 4 boxes then go to the back of the line.
Very nice. Box jumps are a great workout.

I'm not going to lie even at just 24" the set I did with a 25 lbs plate over head was pretty darn hard. Before I decided to do it I didn't really take in to account how much you use your arms in a swinging motion when jumping. I'm thinking the box jumps are here to stay though, I liked the burn.

We have been doing some box jumps in my class recently, but a lot of quick step-ups. Really gets the cardio going.

I think I going to take off tomorrow. I have worked out 7 straight days, some of those obviously doubling up. I actually feel pretty good and could keep going, but know I will feel better with a little rest. Heck, I may even take off Sunday as well. I capped off this week with an 8 mile run (62 minutes) and some abs and long stretching session.

Just a little warning...I love box jumps as much as the next but you have to be careful with them. They are a fantastic way to end up with an Achilles injury. Don't do them a bunch of days in a row and if you feel any soreness in the Achilles layoff. If you are stepping down from the box it's not as big an issue but if your hopping down then springing straight back up you have to be careful.

I probably needed to hear that. I noticed when I was walking down stairs that my calves hurt but then I realized it wasn't really my calf but actually below that which I'm thinking would probably we more like the top of achilles tendon. I will be stepping off of the box from now on.

I was doing good and going to the gym consistently and mixing up my workouts with strength and cardio ..

Until I got a dang sinus infection that's whipped my butt. I've been pretty miserable for about a week now. Once I recover I'm going to get right back in the gym though!

I feel your pain I've been SICK about 3 times since October. I feel like this is the most that I've gotten sick in several years, I'm not sure if it's because I notice it more from missing time at the gym or what but it's sucked.

Maybe it is because I am such an obsessive person with a mental condition, but unless I am bad sick I make myself go to the gym. Even though I know it may be counter-productive I go bonkers if I do not exercise. Actually when I swim the chlorine through my system seems to help.

Took two days off but ran the 5k in 29.51 minutes. Never dream I could get under 30 in this short amount of time.

I don't have a pool nearby to use and I feel miserable so working out would be pointless.

I don't get sick often but when I do it usually sucks.

Yes please be careful guys. High rep, rapid response and high intensity box jumps are a recipe for disaster. Specifically for the untrained (most of us) person. And make sure we know how to land. Injuries associated with jumps generally occur on the landing...not the jump itself.

Jump to box. Show control on the landing and step down for starters.

And 25lbs overhead?? Whoa doggie!

I only do box jumps once a week...if that. But, I only lift twice a week. Though I will do some body weight stuff in addition to the twice-weekly lifting. With at least 3x3x3 of swim/bike/run I just don't have the time to lift more than twice.

I've been thinking of mixing in a weekly yoga session. Does anyone do it?

I wish I had the discipline. It is humbling to say the least. Every time that I have done it, though, I feel a million times better. Stress levels, breathing, energy...just so much better than when I entered the studio. My wife does it all the time at about 106 degrees. She can keep that nonsense.

Haha I was feeling ambitious. Like I said though I was only on a 24" box.

I did front squats today for the first time. What's the difference between these and regular squats? Only difference I can tell is it's easier to keep form and go down.
