Just finished an "I'm bored" 4 mile run.

Can't say I have ever been that bored.

I have found so much good advice in this thread. As a result,

1) Someone suggested goal setting and others mentioned C25K. As of this morning, I have finished week 1. I don't know if I will run a 5K at the end, but I'd like to be ABLE to! I had ACL replacement surgery back in 2000, so I have to be careful with my knee. So far, so good, but if that ends up being an issue, I might have to switch goals.

2) Others mentioned stretching. Even on days that I don't go to the gym, I do stretching and some (unofficial) yoga. I love the stretching part of my workout as much as anything else.

3) I include weight training at every session. At the moment, I'm just doing the machines at the gym, but I think that I might add a little dumbell work into my "no gym" days. (Advice, anyone? If I am using very light weights, 6 or 8 lbs, will this fatigue the muscles too much and work against me?)

4) I am pretty much avoiding the scale, but my clothes are really liking what I am doing! I will have to check out the weight on Tuesday, as I have an appointment with a radiation oncologist for my 2nd opinion on whether I should do radiation treatment for my cancer. I'm leaning toward "no" but want to make as educated a decision as possible.

I feel fantastic. Thanks for the great discussions and motivation.

^Great job, TB&G! Keep it up. I hear you on the running and the knees issue.

That's great TBG and good luck on Tuesday. As for the running I've had 4 knee surgeries, ACL in my left once and in my right twice plus some small stuff on my right another time. Been about 10 years since my last surgery, but i also weighed about 35 lbs less then, so I certainly feel your pain. Listen to your body, if it's aching don't push through it too hard and risk further injury. With the C25K it's modeled for you to be able to get it done in 8 weeks however if your body needs the rest and you stretch it to 9, 10 or even 11 weeks I think that's the smart move. Better to go that route than get sidelined at week 4 due to a stress injury from too much too soon.

I went pants shopping the other day and I could've fit in a 32 waste(33 was loose) however even in a loose fit boot cut jean a 33 looks like I'm wearing skinny jeans bc of my legs and trunk. Over the summer I was well on my way to heading to a size 36 waste so I'm headed in the right direction.

Now it's off to the gym I go for some legs, core and a couple miles on the treadmill.

Oh and I forgot TBG you may not want to make a habit of it but if you wanted to do the C25K one day but your joints are bothering you one day you could always try the eliptical with some resistance instead. Do the same intervals and what not but with some resistance sense IMO the eliptical is a lot stress on your knees and ankles.

Good advice on the elliptical. I may do some time on that while watching the big game. Keeps me away from the Super Bowl snacking, too!

Got a good one in this morning.

20 min on treadmill at 4.5

30 min of dumbell upper body lifting

30 min on Eliptical - intervals - every 2 min I burned it hard for 1 min...then back to normal for 2

dropped 2lbs of I am assuming water just in the 90 min I was there.

Feeling good its been 1 month tomorrow since I started back and I have a ton of energy now.

Any one that's done the C25K have any suggestions on speeds for jogging when on the treadmill?

As fast as you can. IMO I've been doing mind at 7 or 7.2 on the run part.

6.0 is a 10 minute mile. Scale accordingly.

What week are you on? Just finished week 3 and was doing that 3 min run at 8 or 8.5 but it was really killing me. The fact that I was sick all week probably didn't help but I'm thinking about dialing it back some moving forward. This week moves it to intervals of 3 and 5 minutes twice for the run. I just don't see myself sustaining 8+ mph for 5 minutes. Hell that would've been hard 10 years ago.

Yeah I figured I'd go down once I get deeper into it. That's why I said as fast as you can. Tomorrow is my second day of week 2

Ya I just can't keep that pace. Now by week 8. I've got it in mind that I can hopefully do week 4 type stuff around those speeds. That's my personal goal.

Started benching again my first time doing it was last week on my final lift I got 275 for a single.

On my 2nd time doing it I put 225 up for 10 reps and ended with 300 for a single.

Hope to bench today.
