January 31, 201313 yr Registration for the 2013 Crossfit Games open started last night. Thinking about signing up just to see how I stack up. No chance I would make regionals but might be fun to do. Heck I'll probably end up doing the work outs each week anyway. Last year there was almost 70,000 people signed up world wide. I'd be happy if I could make the top 50%.

The past couple of years, I've read, have been a disaster submitting times on their site. Also, last year started w/ 7 minutes of maximum burpees? I want to throw up just thinking of it. That guy from Russia crushed everyone, and then never recovered. He was done after that, I'm not sure that he even made it to European qualifying. Lindsey Nieporte from Brossart made it to regionals. She was 4th after 2 events. The third was a rope climb and clean thing. She couldn't do the cleans, they were like 15lbs over her bodyweight. That eliminated her.
February 1, 201313 yr Reluctantly got signed up for the Louisville Marathon yesterday. I may just end up pacing my wife and another guy doing the race to bring them in under 4:30 but not sure yet. One month later I have an Olympic Triathlon in Tunica, at the start of July a 70.3 in Muncie, IN, and then of course the big enchilada in November. Rest day today. Running 11 tomorrow morning and hopefully the weather cooperates and I can get in a bike ride on Sunday.
February 1, 201313 yr I squated 290 six times in my final set yesterday after 10 sprints of 20 sec. at a 10 deg. incline on the treadmill. My conditioning and endurance is definitely improving. Strength is holding steady. Rest of my workout was weak, but baby steps.

One change they made this year is they will be giving $2100 (believe is the number) to the winner of each open WOD. However to qualify you have to submit a video. There is some speculation the 7 mins of burpees will make another appearance this year. Crossfit HQ likes to repeat one workout from the previous year and most think the burpees will be it. I remember watching Lindsey online at regionals, I think it was you that posted about her then. The workout your talking about was a 2K row, a bunch of pistols, then 30reps of 135lb hang cleans (225 for the men). I believe you had to complete 10 at least to move on. 135lbs is pretty tough when most of those girls only weigh about 115lbs.
February 1, 201313 yr Who else on here uses Jim Wendler’s strength program. I read somebody on here talking about it earlier but I can't remember who. This makes my second week and I can already tell a massive difference from week one, and the best part of course is you don't have to spend a lot of time in the gym. This program is much easier to stick with. The diet is what makes all the difference, which I suppose may be challenging for some but I'm loving it so far.

JVCD does and has great numbers, much better than mine. Woodsy uses it before finishing a day w/ a Crossfit WOD. Which template are you doing?
February 1, 201313 yr Yep, been doing 5/3/1 for close to a year. It's as simple as it gets and you will see results. Like hoopboy, I love the fact that I can get in and out of the gym in less then an hour.

Thanks for the plug. My high numbers are a result of my competive background in various sports. But still modest numbers compared to high level lifters. The program is very simple and provides steady progress for a long period. There are various other Sub Maximal training programs out there. The other most well known is Chad Wesley Smith's "Juggernaut" program. Instead of straight 5/3/1 his is 10/8/5/3. It's the same in principal with some small variances in regards to plus sets and deciding your training max for the next wave. If anyone is actually interested in it PM me and I'd be happy to send you a PDF file with the program in it.

I saw faster gains with it then I have with 5/3/1 but it takes longer in the gym and I had to make sure I was getting enough calories with it. Squating was 2 days per week and I modified for bench 2 days per week. I saw some very impressive gains in bench. Other goods ones I've never tried are westside barbell's and greyskull LP.
February 1, 201313 yr I've seen Greyskull but I'm not familiar with it enough to comment. Westside is the way to go...if you're at a certain level IMO. For the beginners out there I think it would do more harm than good. But there is no arguing that for the experienced trainee/athlete, that the conjugate method that Westside uses is pretty much the standard for becoming strong and explosive.
