December 30, 201213 yr Last night I lost my father at the young age of 65 yrs. He was ill for the past 8 yrs with dementia and Parkinson's. My father experienced early onset frontal lobe dementia at the age of 56 yrs old. His ability to follow directions and remember simple tasks became very difficult and it eventually got worse leading to severe agitation. The dementia got so bad that my mom and other family members had to drive him around in a car all day long and he wanted to go constantly. It got to the point where my mother could not care for him and had to put him in a nursing home. He was in the home for almost 2 yrs when his condition got to the point where he could be cared for in the home and his agitation had subsided. My mother was his in-home caregiver for the past 3 years. His Parkinson's disease got worse and his muscles were contracting all day long burning calories and making it very difficult to keep weight on him. He was wheelchair bound for the first year and was unable to speak as well over the past 3 yrs. In the last year he has been bedridden and developed some severe bed sores. He always knew who we were when we visited him as his eyes would light up and we gave him the best comfort he could ever recieve. He was a Vietnam veteran and not only was my mother blessed to have him return but so was I. I would not be here if he did not come back and he lost several fellow soldiers in his platoon. He recieved a purple heart and also a bronze star for his courage fighting off an ambush in the jungle while a rescue helicopter loaded soldiers who were severely and fatally injured. I am so blessed to have had him as a father and my mother was blessed to be married to him for 45 years. His passing is actually a blessing as his last few months have seen him in and out of the VA hospital battling pnuemonia and his ability to hold down food was very difficult. I was lucky enough to be there with him last night listening to his favorite singer Nora Jones while my mother comforting him. I am at peace but this is very difficult for my mother. Please pray for her and my family. Thank you

December 30, 201213 yr May the belief that your father is resting in a place of absolute joy, comfort you and your family in the difficult days to come. Although you will always miss him, your grief will slowly give way to fond memories of better days with your dad. Until that day when you are reunited with him in eternal peace, you can be sure that he is with you, always, in spirit.
