While it's a great hire for WKU, let's not pretend UK dropped the ball with Petrino. There were PLENTY of other schools that are higher up the food chain than WKU who chose to stay away from Petrino.

WKU takes over sole posession of #2 program in the state. Cat fans throw as many darts as you like but he does not have any wins taken off the books or banners yanked down.

When did Kentucky football have banners to be yanked down?

Petrino was not an option for any SEC school. Officially or unofficially the Presidents got together and said he wasn't an option.

I had a conversation today with a WKU alum and we discussed the possibility that Petrino would resign from WKU if Texas Tech called him about their opening. My initial reaction was "no way" but then my guy reminded me of who we are talking about.

Love the hire. LOVE! People that think this is a bad move are only wishing UK would have had the guts to hire him.

 

Big congrats to WKU. So what if he leaves in two years, the program will just keep on getting better by the year with a guy like him running the show.

I don't think Tech will call and I think Petrino knows it. I believe the presidents of all of the Gang of 5 schools and the Big East bunch elected to stay away from him. I don't doubt that at least one of them told his agent that he'd have to prove himself to get back in. This works out great for WKU, IMO.

I saw a tweet that said Petrino would have to work 21 years at his current salary to make up for the $18M he left on the table at Arkansas.

Petrino runs a pro-style offense. He CALLS the game very aggressively and intuitively, but it is pro-style.
