The refs working their first game together is nothing new. For the last two years the crews no longer exist. Each week can and is different. So, you don't work in an established crew during the season or playoffs. Each weeks is different.

 

What does working together have to do with making the right calls? Can someone help me understand this? Do they depend on the other guys to make the calls for them. Lame excuse anyway.....you are either a good official or you suck and it sounds like they sucked.

There is a familiarity among crews that makes them work better as a unit. Each knows the strengths and weaknesses of the other and where his crew mates are focussing.

 

The KHSAA obviously believes it is better to have what they believe are the best 5 officials rather than the best crew assigned to the games.

Really? Can you explain to me why Highlands was flagged on the play where Seth Hope made a tackle for loss and celebrated with his teammate resulting in a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty? Numerous terrible spots in the game to say the least. The worst part was after you had left. Nothing like hitting a guy from behind after the play, then head butting him and telling him "you want to kick my a--" and the official throwing the flag on Highlands? Sure seemed like the crew expected Highlands to play like good little boys and LexCath could do and say whatever they wanted. Oh well, it really does not matter because Highlands is playing next week and LexCath can get ready for basketball season.

Hahaha my man JOAT has been sitting in that 2nd/3rd row as long as I remember. Have you ever been to DCM. That puts you in ears shot of everything. The beauty of DCM. No other place like it!

I left early so I didn't see all of the stuff at the end of the game. I did see the coach on the field incident and when the flag was thrown it was obviously meant to be a 15 yard penalty but I'd say after some discussion they waived it off. I don't have a whole lot of a problem with that but the coach probably deserved one. I saw a really bad no call on a fade route for a pass interference but the most frustrating call I saw all night was the 15 yard penalty called on Seth Hope. I'm still trying to figure that one out because all that I saw him do was do a forearm bump with a teammate. Previous to that Lex Cath guys were going crazy after big plays, celebrating, gesturing to the crowd, etc., but a forearm bump draws an unsportsmanlike penalty? Overall this reminded me a bit of the Elder game; that crew didn't want to call anything. This crew didn't want to call anything except for holding.

In other words a more diverse, introspective group. Therefore, for the semis they will mix up ref teams so they can get a game under their belt and working together before they ref the state games.

 

Yes Highlands fans, we may see this same group at the state game. Hoping and pretty sure they will not be refing the Highlands/Collins game if Dale has anything to do with it , but yes they will be there.

That is crazy!! There have to be better officials in the state than these clowns..Wow!!!!!

It is going to be very important that the Highlands players and coaches keep control of their emotions next week, especially if some of the referees from the LC game are going to be involved in the title game. From what I have read on here and elsewhere, the referees were not calling the game properly, and if that is the case the team will have to show a lot of poise next week, regardless of what transpires with the officiating.

Well, if what is being reported on here is correct, some of these referees will be looking for any excuse to call personal fouls and the like.

Henry, this is inaccurate. Officials who work in the semi-final do not work in the finals. State championship crews work the regional final and state final together, but they do not work the semi's.
