Crew was from Louisville...Worst I've seen in awhile.

1. Bad spots for both teams all night

2. Picking up an unsportsmanlike penalty thrown on the LC head coach who ran from the sidelines to near midfield and pointed fingers like Pete Rose did to Dave Pallone minus the contact.

3. Awarding a 5 yd gain on an incomplete pass (no lie)

4. Missed more holds on both sides than anyone could count

5. At least 2 PI's one each way that were horrific no calls

6. Delayed the game to tie shoe of an LC player

7. The LC kicker swung and missed on an attempted onside kick - explanation was it blew off the tee which is possible, but it looked like it came off after the kick attempt was made.

8. As the game came to a close there were several cheap shots delivered that were simply ignored.

9. A unsportsmanlike penalty called on LC during an injury timeout - think the refs had big ears -

10. A first down was awarded to Highlands that appeared short and at least should've been measured.

So does anyone know what happened to the 15 yard penalty on LexCath when they gave HHS the fumble on the forward pass. I get that the play was brought back and reversed in LexCath's favor. I'm okay with that. It was the right call! What wasn't right is that they waived off the 15 yard sideline penalty on LexCath in which the coach basically charged onto the field. Poof!!! Gone!!! Like nothing ever happened. That's sort of when the refs lost all control of the Ballgame. Hey #70, you made a very entertaining game to watch a very disturbing thing to witness. So sad!!!!

I was not there to see this, but the first time a flag is thrown for the players/coaches being too close to the field is a warning. The second time it is enforced as a 15 yard penalty. Mayfield received a sidleine warning very early in the game. also.

Someone near me said the flag was a sideline warning, like they do when players are closer than 3 yards to the field.

 

No it wasn't. They threw a flag on the coach for charging onto the middle of the field and throwing a tantrum. Then all of a sudden the 15yd penalty disappeared. I wouldn't let these guys ref a pee wee game! What about the 40 or 50yd pass down the sideline when the LC kid drilled the HHS reciever in the chest 2 seconds before the ball got there? It was the worst intereference non-call I have seen. On a kickoff return I saw a LC kid literally pick a HHS kid up and body slam him right before he was going to make the tackle. These guys had no business doing a semi-final game. NONE!!

Didn't see the play or game. You are probably right that it should have been called but my guess is, after listening to the descriptions on here, is that the officials convinced each other to call it a sideline warning. I've seen that more than a few times in my day and didn't understand it but it's like they give the coach "a free one."

On this particular play I think the refs got the call right. It was a forward pass and was rightfully called incomplete. BUT... what happened next was ridiculous. Instead of putting the ball back to the original line of scrimmage, they put it at the point where the Highlands player recovered the "fumble." This resulted ina 5 yard gain awarded to LC for an incomplete pass!

 

These were horrible refs. Calling borderline holding calls, but ignoring blatant pass interference on at least 3 occasions.

I was told by a Highlands player that after #30 Wrobleski was removed from the field by Highlands coaches in fear of retailiating against an Ali right that the Back Judge told him exact words " hey kid you go tell Mueller that he is lucky #30 didnt get thrown out of the game", "You go tell him that right now, you tell Mueller that"

 

Are you kidding me Francis, A referee going through a 16yr old kid because he doesnt have the dangles to go tell Mueller himself.

 

Iam sorry, Iam with others, this game had a Pike Cty vs Breathitt flavor late due to the blinders being placed on. Sad that they allowed this game to get this far out of hand so quickly.

I agree with you raiderbird, shoulda been 15 yards for charging at the ref, screaming, out on the field of play. I was just relaying what I heard.

Crew was bad both ways from the jump. They made poor calls substantively, which is bad enough, but they let the game get out of hand which was worse and could have resulted in injuries or ejections keeping players from playing in a state championship game.

 

The ball did blow off the tee.

 

The fumble was correctly overruled as an incomplete pass.

 

Not sure if the sideline warning is MANDATORY on a first infraction, but if there was ever an instance that warranted 15 yds rather than a warning, this was 1 of them.

 

Failing to call penalties at the end of the game was bad. It allowed frustrated 17 yo kids seeing their season come to an end to take those frustrations out on backups without any recrimination. Swallowing the whistle in a blowout to get the game done is one thing, but you must maintain control. Also, when the refs don't control it, it is incumbent on coaches to do so and use it as a learning opportunity for these young men. Disappointed in LexCath coaching staff for not intervening.

There were 12 high school football games being played in the Commonwealth last night, so unless selection is random, somebody, or some body of persons, made the decision that this was one of the 12 best crews in the state. Oh, unberievable!

I believe there was an exchange after the game involving one of the refs and some hick. While the refs headed to their lockers, the FortThomas Police pursued someone outside the stadium.

HHS just has to be relieved that none of its players will miss the state championship due to either (1) an injury due to the numerous cheap shots by LC late in the game or (2) being thrown out of the game by the less than competent officials.

 

Time to move on and beat Collins.

I was there and Coach Letton was indeed on the field. The penalty was never intended to be an unsportsmanlike conduct/personal foul on Coach Letton. So, yes. I do believe that the penalty was appropriate. In addition, those saying Coach Letton ran to the middle of the field in some sort of barbaric tirade are simply untrue. There was discussion amongst the officials at about the numbers, and coach walked out there. Pretty normal IMO.
