No joke, I just heard a Rex Ryan "rumor". It's getting a bit ridiculous.

 

Matt Jones said his "guess" is that Rex will be approached. Not completely crazy. He did say he in no way believes Rex Ryan will be coaching at UK.

 

It would be really crazy now to say he would take it.

Eric Crawford included Rob Ryan in his rather exhaustive list of candidates; he also included Charlie Strong, so clearly a name need not be realistic for it to be considered.

I'd take Rex in a heartbeat too. He's a bigger than the program personality and the man knows defense. With his NFL connections as well, he could go into the homes of these kids in Alabama, Georgia, Florida, etc. and actually lure them away instead of getting the leftovers.

 

Is he foul mouthed? Yes. But, those of you that dont think the overwhelming vast majority of college football coaches who aren't need to quit looking through rose colored glasses and get some thicker skin. That or quit letting your wives effect how you think.

I really think Neil Brown will be on the coaching staff next year. Probably not as HC, but as OC.

I really don't know who will be the HC. I would bet A LOT of money that it's not Sonny Dykes though. I don't think he'll be at LaTech next year, but on the same note I don't think he'll be at UK.

Buddy has lived in KY for a long time. I think their step mom is still alive but pretty sick including buddy's health is not the best. I believe Rex coached at EKU before going to OK to be on staff. I might have that backwards. I mentioned Rex the other day because of family reasons though I don't think it will happen. It would be pretty interesting though.

I'm hoping for Rex Ryan or Jon Gruden. I'm thinking Neal Brown or Sonny Dykes will be the next coach.

I can't see a former NFL coach taking this job. There aren't enough necessities in place for them to do it. At least not a sucessful former NFL coach.

 

Charlie Strong and Willie Taggart would be making lateral moves if they came to UK.

 

The timing is interesting because Auburn, Arkansas, and possibly Tennessee will be looking for new coaches and UK needed to get the jump to see what their possibilities are.

 

Kirby Smart's name keeps being thrown out but he is a Georgia grad and will be the likely replacement for Mark Richt. Also, the Nick Saban coaching tree isn't a big one because he exerts complete control over every facit of the program. Jimbo Fisher and Will Muschamp are the biggest names but that's about it.

 

I still don't think hiring a coordinator is the best bet here. Joker proved a good coordinator doesn't always make a good head coach.

 

However, Hal Mumme proved an up-and-coming head coach isn't the long term answer. He got results quick but it cost the program.

 

I still think Petrino gets hired at Auburn and he is holding out for that job.

 

One name no one is mentioning is former Oregon coach Mike Bellotti. He was the OC under Rich Brooks then took over when Brooks went to the NFL. He was 116-55 as Oregon head coach before becoming the AD there. He is now a broadcaster. You would think he would get the Rich Brooks seal of approval and Barnhart already has in-roads to Oregon.
