No reason to believe so other than UK needs a highly productive offensive mind to bring life to the program. I get a kick out of fans who say UK needs a homerun hire, hire a big name, etc. Do the realize how poor a job UK football is? Tell me another program where the chances to compete for a conference championship are less than at UK.

I keep reading this over and over, but why is that? Why is this acceptable? Why can't UK have successful football? I know they suck and have sucked for quite a while but why? In the Furball's own words, "why, why, why!"

OK, so you're indicating geography plays a part. But I have to wonder what places like Boise, Idaho and Manhattan, Kansas have over Lexington. The attitude "it's always been that way" is a big reason, in my mind, the football program is what it is. If you don't expect success, how can you achieve it?

I'm with you. I can't stand the attitude of just wanting to be competitive in the SEC. If that's all the fans want, why should the University put big dollars into the program and coaches? Demand a conference championship and demand the school to do what it takes to accomplish it. If I was a high school star football player and felt that UK's goal was just to be competitive in the SEC, UK's coach wouldn't get his call returned from me. That is a fact.

 

With all respect, the location of the University is just an excuse; the presence of powerhouses in the conference is just an excuse; the talent base in Kentucky is an excuse; there are bunch of excuses. I'm not into excuses. UK can win the SEC and compete for national championships if that becomes our goal and we demand that the University do what it takes to make it happen. I really don't care if my expectations seem unrealistic. Schnellenberger is one hundred percent correct. I want a head coach willing to say to UK administration, it's fans and his players: If I don't win the SEC championship within 4 years, I will resign. I will not accept anything less and neither should you.

 

When Dale Mueller was interviewed for the head coaching job at Highlands, someone involved with the hiring process told him he just wanted Highlands to be competitive once again in CovCath. I believe Dale told that person he would not accept the job if those were the expectations. He expected to beat CovCath 8 or 9 times out of 10 and he expected the school and community to give him the resources to make that happen. It has happened.
