Highland Heights man shot and killed by his girlfriend

Featured Replies

I will double check that. From the stories I have read it seemed to me that she was one of the defense attorneys but I make mistakes.

I can't recall, but if Deanna is involved you can bet she's going to bulldog the whole thing....

Why not? I read yesterday that he has been able to buy guns since his conviction although I can't find the link now. The guy has a 6th grade education and can barely read and write. His understanding was that he never went to jail and felons go to jail. It's entirely possible, because of his lack of education, that he didn't understand the procedures.

My dad only had a 6th grade education. To this day, I've yet to meet a smarter man than he.

Don't we all! :isurrender:

David Mejia was one of her attorneys from the trial. Not sure if he had help.

Dennison did not represent Hubers in the murder trial. She came on board for the appeal. She was reviewing video of the juror voir dire in the Hubers case in preparing the appeal and recognized the juror as her client from back in the 90's on the felony.

System is set up to let 100 guilty people free before convicting a single innocent person. Unfortunate that the family has to go through this again because of the incompetence of the system and those implementing it, but UKMF is correct that it had to go down this way because all benefits of the doubt have to go to the accused to make sure the process is fair.

Assume she'll get convicted again.

This case is being followed/studied in one of my college kid's business law class. I heard all about it today! (I get the process but feel awful for the victim's family).

Especially when one side is dead. I agree. Sometimes you just have to go with your instincts and my spidey senses are off the charts with this chick.

Was this the same girl who said during the Dateline show, something along the lines of "he wanted a nose job so I gave him one"? Or am I getting episodes mixed up? If so, that doesn't sound like it was a self defense encounter...

Same one. She also said she put some more shots into him because she couldn't stand him twitching.

And dancing around the interview room?

I was really busy in November back when they held the hearing on when the case would be re-tried. Judge Stine scheduled the second trial for September 2017.

When will Shayna Hubers' retrial begin? | Cincinnati.com

Hubers hires a new defense attorney...and now gets a continuance to January of 2018. The new attorney says he has too many trials pending in order to prepare and be able to sufficiently represent Hubers in September. Ridiculous.

At least she's still in jail. I don't see that changing.

Police are once again investigating Shayna Hubers, this time for an allegedly forged petition.

It's another twist in a murder case that has garnered national attention.

A jury in 2015 convicted Hubers of murdering her boyfriend, a prominent 29-year-old attorney, Ryan Poston, in his Highland Heights apartment.

The case seemed closed when Hubers' attorney made a discovery in 2016. One of the jurors was a convicted felon, convicted 25 years earlier of back child support payments.

With all the attention, Hubers wanted a change of venue for her second trial. She submitted on Tuesday a petition with 156 signatures.

The problem was, 118 of the signatures were forged, Campbell County prosecutor Michelle Snodgrass has alleged in a motion filed June 21. Among the forged signatures included Corey Plybon, an assistant commonwealth's attorney, the motion stated.

The Highland Heights Police are investigating.

"The defendant's motion for a change of venue is wrought with extreme, pervasive fraud that rises to the level of criminal conduct," Snodgrass wrote in the motion.

The notary for 122 of the signatures, Brittany Young, admitted to Highland Heights Police Chief William Birkenhauer, to forging all but three of the signatures, according to an affidavit signed by Birkenhauer.

The affidavit doesn't say why she forged the signatures.

A hearing is scheduled in Campbell County Circuit Court on Friday to discuss the change of venue motion.

"The Commonwealth simply cannot respond to a motion based so heavily (on) illegal misrepresentations," Snodgrass wrote in the motion. "To respond to these affidavits, submitted by Ms. Hubers, would be to dignify them as more than they truly are, felonies."

Calls to Hubers' attorneys, David Eldridge and Jeff Lawson, were not immediately returned on Wednesday.

I went to the Police Academy with Chief Birkenhauer, I am glad to see he is still crushing crime like always!

That is quite a development. File that under the "wait, what?" category.

One of the news stations had a nice clip on this little darling. When asked a question her response was "Yeah I probably did sleep with 10-12 guys that year, but not sure what that has to do with this crap". Someone in the background kindly reminded her, that she wasn't the one to determine what was relevant.
