Here is a new wrinkle to the discussion: how many NKY schools have travel restrictions? I know for a fact that Raceland tried to schedule a few NKY schools and they said they were unable to travel more then 100 miles to play. Raceland is about 125-150 miles from many of the NKY schools. Johnson Central is about 300 miles from most NKY schools.

For the record, I agree with Coach Matney, that our area does not get much respect. If CovCath or Highlands had beaten Ironton this year, the site would have lit up. Ironton is a very good team with a super stud in the backfield.

By mapquest it is 163 miles from Paintsville to Covington.

Ironton is ranked 73rd in Ohio. Not sure if JC should hang their "respect" hat on that victory. :idunno:

True if you want to travel on two lane roads for a good portion of the trip. Mapquest shows two routes. Ky-9W is 166 miles while taking 3 hours and forty minutes and the other is I75-N which is 190 miles and it takes 3 hours and 16 minutes. The most logical route is the second one. It's a miserable bus ride anyway you go though.

It may be going I75, after I looked. I was looking at the route I take (AA Highway) to get to NKY which is 100 miles plus the additional hour and half to get to Johnson Central from where I'm at. But, it's over the 100 mile travel restriction for, at least, some NKY schools. If they can't travel to Raceland, they sure as heck can't travel to Paintsville.

Yea, OK.

Obviously you know very little about Ironton or Ohio football.

Have no idea where you got your info. Ironton was ranked 4th in the AP poll in Division 4 before the game last week.

He got his info from Max Preps.

A couple things here ...

*There are a few smaller schools with restrictions in NKY.

*There is at least one team (Class A) that has no restrictions ... I don't think they heard from you.

*If Highlands or Cov Cath would have played Ironton and beat them ... it would be about the same response as they have for a normal game (meaning .. plenty of talk ... but nothing out of the ordinary).

*Every time I hear the "no respect" act from Northeastern Kentucky ... you lose a little more respect from guys like me. (How many Beechwood fans have you seen who have offered the "no respect" card this season? ... None). And let me tell you ... it still works well without the talk.

You guys (Raceland) have done a great job of building up your program.

Do yourself a favor .. and not do anything that puts yourself in the same light as the "coach" in question. (And to answer that one ... I think anyone who knows anything about Johnson Central RESPECTS the program, and most importantly, the kids who play there. What I don't understand .. is why the coach seems to think that these types of comments do anything for the level of respect that he receives). Not to mention ... the whole "Smashmouth" football thing. People read that ... and wonder. It is great to be proud of what you do ... but smash mouth to some of us is different based on what part of the state you are in.

Hopefully .. you don't take this as bad conversation ... but the "no respect" crap gets old. If anything ... there are consistent powers that spend a lot more time on your program than you will ever begin to imagine (just like with Mayfield, FRANKFORT, Etc).

196 miles from Highlands to Johnsonville. Not even close to 300. You would be in Columbus Oh with that mileage.

No, we didn't contact Beechwood. I think, it was an email from the listserve that our coach responded to from Bellvue or Ludlow that was looking for a game and he was told that they weren't allowed to travel over 100 miles. Not a big deal, just an inquiry that couldn't be worked out.

I agree. It would have been business as usual if they beat Ironton. But, I have to think they would seen it as an accomplishment. Ironton is a pretty good team that most programs, even the best ones, would have been proud to beat this year.

I wasn't speaking of Raceland. I was speaking more of the area as a whole. Now, as much as I hate to admit it, a lot of that is our fault. The area as a whole is not strong, in fact, some programs are just bad. Maybe that is why we get a little chip on our shoulder when there is a good program and it seems that no one notices.

Thank you. We do take pride in our program and want the kids to succeed. The community in Raceland is great and really supports the program. And we have put together a very good coaching staff that has built the program better then when they found it. That with the quality of student/athletes we have had success.

I know Matney rubs many the wrong way. And, I am sure from the comments on this site after they rose to prominence, that Highlands fans and CovCath fans have said they are respectful of the Johnson Central program. I have to say that I do understand why some of the Johnson Central fans get upset, they used to be the whipping boys in that area and it took a long time for them to get to a spot where they could be successful. Paintsville used to be the football power in Johnson County and it took a lot of changing minds to make Johnson Central the football power. Now Paintsville is in bad shape.

As for the smash mouth football comment, I only made that comment because I know it's an area of controversy in different regions. It really is nothing to me.

Don't take it wrong at all. I like the conversation about our area of the state. I like hearing what people from other areas think. I have a great deal of respect for Beechwood, Mayfield, Frankfort, Hazard, and many other in 1A. Our coaching staff went to camp at Mayfield quite a few years ago to see what they were doing rite. They were gracious enough to let us know. We have always tried to emulate what Beechwood does, that is what has helped us to progress.

If you're going to post in a thread at least get your facts straight. Johnson Central didnt drop Boyle in the second year of a two year contract. Johnson Central traveled to Boyle in 2009 and list 49-7 and the following year Boyle traveled to Paintsville and defeated Johnson Central 36-29. It's not hard to look this information up before you post in a thread. Tell me sml007 who are the elite teams you are reffering to? I feel that Johnson Central plays one of the the bests schedules in eastern Kentucky.

Matney threatened to buy out the contract immediately after the 49-7 loss to Boyle County. He said so himself and that is a fact. The game was in question all the way up until a couple of months before the game was played as most in our area didn't think there was going to be a game. I believe there were a couple of threads about it.

The film DVDs that they traded to Cov Cath in 2009 and 2010 did not work. I can vouch for that, because they were both handed to me at halftime of the Cov Cath games the week before both years. After hearing the "oh yeah, Matney does that" rumors following the 2009 instance, we ran the DVD down to the coaches' office and popped it in the DVD player as soon as we had it in our hands in 2010. It didn't work, so we found their coach in the stands and informed him. They wouldn't offer to send a replacement - even after I offered to pay for the overnight shipping charges.

He did the same thing to Scott in 2009, except he didn't bother to even send a copy of game film....at least you guys got a coaster:D.

I'm glad that you provided the links to those previous threads but it really does change the fact that the game wasnt cancelled as sml007 suggested.SML007 stated that Johnson Central never played the second game of a two year contract. This was false and I corrected the false information. I remember what was said after the game and I know Coach Matney regretted mentioning anything about buying out the second year. I'm an employee of the Johnson County school district and I know for a fact that the game was never going to be cancelled. You can go back and bring up any thread that you want but it still doesnt change the fact that the game wasnt cancelled.

Johnson Central never received a game film from Scott either so what's your point? Scott could have had every Johnson Central game for the last ten years and it wouldn't have helped them.
