Coach Matney from Johnson Central

Winner.

He also said:

“We wanted to make a statement that we play on a big level,” said Johnson Central ninth-year coach Jim Matney.

“We keep having big wins and big wins everywhere but it’s kind of like, oh, it’s that school in the mountains,” he added. “It doesn’t seem like we ever get any respect. It’s an absolute continuing battle over the nine years I’ve been here to win respect.”

Great he said that because I lost ALL respect for him the night he almost ran Jude in the ground at Woodford, allowing the other team to return a kickoff just so his offense can go back in. The kid spent the night in a Lexington hospital, so ZERO respect for mr matney...

In the same article, he also said:

“We had the state’s all-time leading rusher, and they are still doubters,” he said. “People are like, well he’s OK, but he’s not that good because he plays at Johnson Central.

I second that statement. He could have gotten JJ some pub without having to embarass WC or chance an injury to a great football player. Jim's act is tired.

What would he be saying if he were the beneficiary of a similar drubbing all in the name of stats? I doubt he would be see things the same as he currently professes.

Matney's kids play hard. They always do. I've never had any lack of respect for them, nor does anyone else involved at Cov Cath. Now, respect for Coach Matney...that's a different matter all together. Shall we start with, "What do you mean the films wouldn't play? ...oops, must have been a bad DVD. Sorry."

He has had multiple opportunities to play good competition that he is refering to in this statement, including teams from NKY. However, he has chosen not to play these schools, yet beg for small schools to pay him on th listserve. They paid a huge amount of money for a single a school from Western Kentucky to play them in the opening game last season who had went 0-10 the year before. Is that good competition???

Matney also petitioned the state when they were 5A to play 4A so he could dodge Highlands and CovCath. When the state reclassified and put Highlands and CovCath in 4A, he petitioned the state to play 5A instead of 4A. He also dropped Boyle from the 2nd year of a 2 year contract a couple years ago because Boyle stomped them. His teams will never be considered elite until they beat the elite teams.

If you're going to post in a thread at least get your facts straight. Johnson Central didnt drop Boyle in the second year of a two year contract. Johnson Central traveled to Boyle in 2009 and list 49-7 and the following year Boyle traveled to Paintsville and defeated Johnson Central 36-29. It's not hard to look this information up before you post in a thread. Tell me sml007 who are the elite teams you are reffering to? I feel that Johnson Central plays one of the the bests schedules in eastern Kentucky.

I believe he is saying that in order to be an elite 5A school, you will have to beat good 4A, 5A, and 6A competition. This will not happen if you choose not to schedule these teams during scheduling times. He is on the listserve looking for smaller schools to play, and refusing to schedule good teams. Most Eastern KY teams are not 5A. Do you want to compare your schedule to 3A, 2A, and A schools?
