Who Said it?

Featured Replies

I'm glad that you provided the links to those previous threads but it really does change the fact that the game wasnt cancelled as sml007 suggested.SML007 stated that Johnson Central never played the second game of a two year contract. This was false and I corrected the false information. I remember what was said after the game and I know Coach Matney regretted mentioning anything about buying out the second year. I'm an employee of the Johnson County school district and I know for a fact that the game was never going to be cancelled. You can go back and bring up any thread that you want but it still doesnt change the fact that the game wasnt cancelled.

And at the same time ... it does not change what Matney said.

Matney does this stuff to himself.

His words and actions are where all disrespect is located .. .not on the program or kids who represent Johnson Central.

I will never understand this:

*The players at Johnson Central are as tough and hard-nosed as they come and play their hearts out.

*Then the head coach disrespects their effort by pulling the "recruiting/cheating" card and the "we are not respected" card.

No one will ever convince me as to how that makes sense.

And the people of Johnson County could care less what you think of our program and our coach. We feel the same way about you and the rest of the people who personally attack our coach while hiding behind your computer screen. At least he's man enough to speak his mind and not hide behind a user name. The sad part of it all is 90% of you haven't even met the man.

Have no idea where you got your info. Ironton was ranked 4th in the AP poll in Division 4 before the game last week.
Got it off of Maxpreps.

1. Everyone who has a clue on this website knows who I am (pretty sure I don't hide behind any thing).

2. I am in the 10% .. thanks for making another uninformed statement that draws attention to what is TRULY important in Paintsville (which is obviously not the effort of the student athletes who represent Johnson Central High School).

3. You obviously care ... or you would have sat back, laughed and never responded.

As I said before ... I have no clue why you are celebrating a person who disrespects the efforts of the the student athletes that he is responsible for with these types of comments. If you want to defend that ... that is your problem. Not mine .. or anyone else here.

You can keep setting them up .... and I will keep knocking them down ..... (just try to make it a little harder next time--I am bored).

Obviously you know very little about Ironton or Ohio football.
Obviously you don't know much about what I know.

What we have in this whole discussion is the kind of thinking that, I feel, hurts some Eastern Kentucky programs. There seems to be a mentality (among a few) that being a power in "the mountains" should be reason for others to give you respect. But that's not the way respect works. Respect has to be earned...taken...deserved. You have to look beyond being king of the mountains and toward a statewide view. Not all EKY programs think this way, but there are those that do. And Coach Matney seems to be among those who subscribe to this way of thinking.

To make it worse, every year, he rolls out the same old tired argument that his kids are hard-working, underprivliged farm boys who don't have the advantages of the big city teams, yet deserve to be counted among the powerhouses of the state anyway. These aren't my sentiments, they're the sentiments he has expressed repeatedly in the media.

What in the heck to you know about Eastern Kentucky programs? Did you do some additional research on Max Preps? I cant speak about other Eastern Kentucky programs but I know exactly what goes on at Johnson Central. If you only knew the obstacles that our kids face in there lives and the effort that coach Matney and his coaching staff put into, not only making them into football players, but also teaching them life lessons, you would know why your tired argument statement has really ticked me off. How many kids at highlands are still at school three hours after practice is over because they have no ride home? How many kids at Highlands have ever slipped back into the locker room to sleep because they dont have a stable home to go to? It's plain and simple,if you dont like what Coach Matney says dont read it. I rarely post on here but I've had enough of members like yourself getting on here and acting like you know everything about our area and our football teams. It's this snobby, know it all mentality that has driven away many members from the eastern and southeastern portion of the state away from Bluegrass Preps. Jim Matney is a friend of mine, and although I dont always agree with him on everything, I'm very thankful for what he has done for our program at Johnson Central.

I know it wasn't. I was at the second game. Just letting you know the climate and opinion of Matney here in Boyle County.

It's the same recording over and over. This is why you aren't earning respect. And it isn't the players fault at all.

For the record, I know many fine people from the mountains of EKY, and count them among my dearest friends. I don't hear these kind of remarks coming from them. And that I respect.

It's as simple as this Birdsfan, if you get tired of hearing it stay out of the Johnson Central and other Eastern Kentucky threads. If it bothers you so much why do you continue to read the threads and give your opinion? One quick off topic question Birdsfan. Wasn't you a moderator in the past on here?

I believe this was a "Who Said It" thread, not a Johnson Central thread. And as you can see by reviewing this thread, I'm not alone in seeing the problem here -- just the only one who happens to be up at 1:00 a.m. But, I've grown tired of beating this particular dead horse, so I'm going to bed. :thumb:
