There are a lot of people on here assuming a rematch in November. Unless I am missing something, there is a school in Lexington that may have something to say about that.
You are missing something. Under the current playoff alignment, HHS and CCH are both in Region 4, and their rematch, if it happens, would be in week 3 of the playoffs in the Region 4 championship. LexCath is in Region 3 and if they make it that far, they would meet the winner of the HHS/CCH rematch the following week in the semifinals.

Got it. I forgot they changed the playoff format.

There is also the possibility that they don't play if either team doesn't take care of business against our opposing district.

Well done Birds. Solid effort from every facet of the game. Won't single out any one player. All played very well. Just a total team victory. Loved the play calling. Just line up and go at them. Also loved the defense. Birds flew the ball.

More than likely it will be Highlands and CovCath vs Ashland and Johnson Central. We know it will be HHS as the #1 seed in NKY and CCH as the #2. The Ashland vs JC game will determine who HHS and CovCath play.

That was where Dale really outcoached the Colonels. He didn't force the passing game that they had been working on for the past couple of weeks. He saw that he had CC's defense gassed and he just kept stuffing it down their throats. CovCath was having great success up the middle w/ the run. They never made Highlands consistently stop the run. They were trying too hard to mix it up.

Agree. Dale does the best job I've ever seen adjusting his offense and play calling year to year/game to game to fit his talent and match ups against the defense. I went into the game thinking we'd win by 2 TDs. I liked what I saw of Boone County's ability to move the ball early against CovCath and felt we'd be able to do even better running the ball against CovCath. Mid-way through the second quarter Friday night, I felt really confident about my assessment. When you can successfully run the ball against a team that is committed to stopping the run, you are going to win the game 95 plus times out of 100. Football is a simple game.

Biggest "stat" for me? No fumbles by the Birds, which was made even more impressive by all the tackles in traffic and by second and third efforts by Highlands ball carriers to pick up additional yards. Well done.

I have a question for CCH Faithful, why do the Colonels consistently attack the flats in their passing game? I know Bir has a strong arm and they have been successfull with it but I can barely remember them attacking the seam. The Bird CB's were basically sitting back waiting for the out routes and IMO giving them too much cushion at the beginning of the game.

Suprised they werent trying to jump some routes. Murray had a great pick at the end when they ran motion to the right and threw directly that way.

The overall team speed that Highlands possesses is "silly"!!! Congrats to both teams for some entertainment. Had to sit next to the CovCath "Crazies" last night, they are a fun group of fans to watch, although the throwing of the "pom-poms" in the wind was getting a little old.

Many thanks for the update texts during the game, by the way.

The running game comments you make were my thoughts also heading into the game. I had Highlands winning 38-28. Based on Boone County and based on Beechwood putting two long run dominated drives together versus CCH, I expected Highlands to pound the ball at CCH and they did.

Colonels are getting better each yr. Coach Wirth is doing a "Good Job" over there.
