Pound the Beechies!

Evidently. alot of posters don't have kids that play any type of sports.....any person that thinks to intentionally run up the score on the opposition and other kids would be good......well, better check yourself in your closest mirror and see who is looking back!!!!!

If there is a pool, it's a very shallow one. Can't say one or two kids/parents haven't made the choice over the years, but it's not like there's 4 or 5 kids making that choice every year.

 

I agree with this. The pool is small because of the Catholic education angle, although a key player or two on this CCH team attended Beechwood before high school. Personally, I think the bigger threat to the CCH player pool is Holy Cross. The people at CCH are there for the Catholic education. If my son is a football player and I want a Catholic education, I look at Holy Cross and CCH. If I want a small school, a more diverse student body, want my son to have a better chance at playing time if that is a concern, etc., then I send him to Holy Cross. I wonder how many kids are at CCH not even playing football that would be playing if they went to Holy Cross. I wonder how many kids on the CCH football team will never get playing time but would get significant playing time at Holy Cross.

This is true. But it is not always about playing time. It is about being a part of a team and the friendships that are made for many of the kids.

Put me down for a yes. CCH is in competition for many of the same student-athletes as Beechwood so it is in CCH's best interests to pound the Tigers and pound them hard.

And in my opinion there is a huge difference between two schools that compete for student athletes and a JV game between two schools that rarely compete for student athletes.

I'd say pertaining to football only, there might be on average one guy a year that decides to go to Cov Cath or Beechwood (specifically one or the other) based upon the football teams' successes.

Do you think there is a pool of kids that have the potential to go to either school or is that a myth? Basically guru's argument was based upon a belief there was such a pool.

 

I would suggest you cannot look at it in piecemeal. One year probably isn't going to make much difference but if CovCath consistently "runs it up" on Beechwood AND they compete well with Highlands over a long period of time then I think the "shallow pool" gets a lot deeper.

Not so sure I agree ....

In the past ... I would be willing to bet that there are a whole boatload of kids at Boone County who either have ... or will go to Cov Cath based on athletics (Beechwood could fall into that as well at times ... but ... that average is probably close to 1 to 3 each year .. where the effects of poor athletics influence the decision significantly more often).

 

If you want to look at it on a higher level ... I would be willing to say that the competition between Cov Cath and Beechwood is basically non-existist due to the "Catholic Education" theory. Very, very, very few base their decision on football (and at this point ... I would say that other sports have a larger influence on heading to Cov Cath. Off the top of my head ... I can think of some great track athletes who went to Cov Cath because Beechwood did not have a team at the time. I would also Beechwood loses volleyball/basketball/softball players to NDA).

 

In summation .... football has a lot less to do with it than other sports.

And ... it has a lot to do with kids from schools like Boone, Conner, Cooper, Ryle, etc, etc going to Cov Cath to play football specifically.

 

The last thought to think about ... would be this ... go to Beechwood .. have a better chance to win a championship (Yeah .. I know .. Mayfield. But ... if you want to play deep in the playoffs every year ... easy decision. Not to mention ... would you rather go to CC ... and possibly sit on the bench for a while .. or go to Beechwood and have a better chance to play?)
