As aforementioned, its sad because the players at trinity are estatic when they win the championship and they have excellent relationships with X players and all the hoopla and controversy comes from the parents and supporters

Well they're only obligated to play 3 district games. St. X is a current state power, and Male has great tradition and will undoubtably return to they're winning ways. Manual is usually as solid as anyone in 6A too. If T is obligated to play in state teams, that's as good of a schedule as you could ask for. They have seven more games to play the country's best opponents.

Your point is well taken, but then again those relatively meaningless district games could be replaced by games against other national powers with potential to be televised, increasing both revenue and recruiting reach.

 

They only have 3 of those games, one of which is against X. They already play national powers with the potiential of having them televised. What is the benefit to Trinity?

I've said it before. Trinity is on a great run. I hope it continues at this pace but common sense and experience tell me otherwise. All good things must come to an end------some time.

I'd imagine that idea would go over like a lead balloon within the KHSAA. What's more is that I wouldn't want it to happen.

 

Like others have said, Trinity's been on a great run here but it's really not in the ordinary course of business. I was there just a decade ago and while we were good in the state of Kentucky, we were regularly getting PASTED by the teams from Indianapolis and Cincinnati. I remember in my freshman year we were absolutely worked by Elder and Cincy St. Xavier in back-to-back weeks by 30+ points. I'm sure many remember the 1994 state championship team getting steamrolled by Indianapolis Ben Davis that season. That was pretty much par for the course at the time. This run is tremendous and I'm extremely proud of the program in recent years, but I'm hardly prepared to call it a complete paradigm shift.

Like it all All Tell but T has a wide radius of talent to draw in.

On another topic. For the past several years, Trinity president Rob Mullen would ask Trinity head football coach Bob Beatty to provide him a list of the starting 22 players at the beginning of the football season. Of those 22 kids, the overwhelming majority would come from the Louisville Catholic School Athletic Association (CSAA) schools, in many cases 19-20 of the 22 kids. I would argue the success of Trinity and St. X over the decades could be attributed to the outstanding development incoming freshman have starting day one at Trinity or St. X due to the CSAA FAR more than it could be attributed to non CSAA kids. I would be interested to hear from Leatherneck if he would agree that much of Highlands success come from the Highlands grade school leagues.

It will be interesting to see how Trinity does after this football season when these seniors are gone. I imagine T will still always be in the hunt for State Championships but will they still be able to play the regional powerhouses and beat them in a fashion like last year? I have no idea.

revenue and recruiting reach????? Are you serious??? Are we talking Trinity University or the high school in Louisville??? Does anyone else have an issue with this statement? Yes, recruiting may happen, but for it to really be a concern for a high school program is a joke in itself.

Trinity is on a current great run, but who's to say that St. X or some other team can't or won't challenge them again. I understand what your saying, but if they leave KHSAA what would they do in November and early December when the rest of the country is in the playoffs. I don't see Trinity playing 10 games and going to the house each year when the playoffs start.

 

Trinity is on a run. It happened in 1988-1992 and 2000-2008 and 2010-2011. But those were runs were based on great players. The runs stopped. St X has had some great runs. Quick, Hatcher and that class will graduate and Trinity will again have to cope with the other schools.

I would say not unless he won a couple championships back to back because of namesake. Kids want to go to trinity for namesake. Trinity and X also have an advantage over public schools in funding which helps.
