July 28, 201214 yr At the time it wasn't that nuanced a position from those who were against them. It was more to the point of they should "shut up and sing," and that they should somehow not have an opinion. http://bluegrasspreps.com/kentucky-national-politics/dixie-chicks-so-114988.html
July 28, 201214 yr I'm often reminded during my BGP visits that I come from a completely different generation. When I was growing up, there were lots of folks who made their living singing protest songs. It was EXPECTED.
July 28, 201214 yr http://bluegrasspreps.com/kentucky-national-politics/dixie-chicks-so-114988.html That's an interesting read. Quite a flavor of "shut up and sing" idealism from some. I just don't see that same "shut up and make good chicken" message from them in this thread. But, alas, time changes all things.
July 29, 201214 yr That's an interesting read. Quite a flavor of "shut up and sing" idealism from some. I just don't see that same "shut up and make good chicken" message from them in this thread. But, alas, time changes all things. Sometimes it's time, sometimes it's political inclination. Bottom line for me - the company CEO has every right to support the causes he wants to support and to not support those he doesn't want to support. Doesn't matter a hill of beans to me. I wasn't going out of my way to eat at a Chick-Fil-A before and I'm not going to now. Very, very ordinary food; and I don't need to be wasting time and money on ordinary food when I'm out of town.
July 29, 201214 yr I remember there being a huge backlash against the Chicks. Radio stations quit playing their music, due to their listeners complaining. Two DJs were suspensed for playing their music. There were "Bring you Chick cds to be destroyed" rallies. Tons of people were up in arms over it. It pretty much led to their move into obscurity. It's a totally different reaction here. "The Chick-Fil-A people have a RIGHT to say what they want. Why should their stance deter anyone from purchasing their products?" Now, those that are saying that they don't want to use Chick-Fil-A are the ones receiving the backlash. It just reeks of hypocrisy to me. All "Chicks" are created equal, right? There is no hypocrisy here...those that didn't agree with the Dixie Chicks quit buying their music or concert tickets...those don't agree with Chick-Fil-A are saying they will essentially do the same thing. Same backlash against those that called out the Dixie Chicks for Trashing the President while oversees, ever one that didn't support the Dixie Chicks was labeled a non-thinking right winger or worse. This is in may ways a mirror situation except for one thing...Chick-Fil-A has more support than the Dixie Chicks did.
July 29, 201214 yr I know that I'm slower than Kyle Wiltjer running gassers getting to this thread. I have heard and read most of the rhetoric from both sides of this debate...the hardest thing to find is the exact quote from the CFA COO. Most stories and thread posted only gave an interpretation of what he was saying, not his actual quote...I found this from the Wall St Journal.. On July 16, Dan Cathy, 59 years old, was asked in an interview by the Baptist Press, a news service of the Southern Baptist Convention, whether he opposed gay marriage. "We are very much supportive of the family—the biblical definition of the family unit," he said. "We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives.…We want to do anything we possibly can to strengthen families." The Cathys are Southern Baptists. Chick-fil-A's Long Christian Heritage - WSJ.com I fail to see any attack on anyone or anything, just a man stating his beliefs. Agree or not, that is his right...what he said is a lot less demeaning to anyone than the things that have said back about him and his company. Don't see him wanting to ban any customers or wanting anyone to get cancer because of their beliefs.

July 29, 201214 yr I'm often reminded during my BGP visits that I come from a completely different generation. When I was growing up, there were lots of folks who made their living singing protest songs. It was EXPECTED. Singing protest songs is great. I always liked protest songs. I hate going to a concert and listening to someone spout on and on about their political views, though. Doesn't matter if it's a Dixie Chicks type or a Ted Nugent type, I'm a "shut up and sing" kind of guy in this regard. One question I have for those that are dead set against Chick-Fil-A on the comments that were made is; where is the tolerance from the ones that are preaching tolerance? Tolerance is only applicable when it falls in line with their way of thinking?

July 29, 201214 yr I don't care what the Ceo of CFA or whoever he is believes , as long as he keeps making those delicious chicken sandwiches:ylsuper:

July 29, 201214 yr I guess all those opposed to Chick-Fil-A have quit buying gasoline too.. After all most OPEC countries put homosexuals to death..
July 29, 201214 yr Which part of what he said do you disagree with? I disagree with his personal viewpoint on gay marriage. He's against it. I'm for it.
