June 30, 201214 yr Since we're talking Mount Rushmore and we have to choose only four, they would be John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Will Ferrell and Eddie Murphy. Next cut in order would probably be Phil Hartman, Chris Rock, Bill Murray and Adam Sandler. Hosts - Steve Martin and Buck Henry. I'm an old fogey - so sue me.

And probably Gilda Radner would be #6. If I was picking personal favorites, I take Phil in the top four, but I based my list on the quartet that I felt have had the most lasting impact on the show.

I truly believe that without Phil Hartman then Farley and Ferrell may not have had an SNL to be on. That mid-80s cast saved them from cancellation, and Hartman was the anchor. He was also key in spanning that cast with the "Bad Boy" cast of the early 90s. You certainly can't go wrong with the guys you named, but Hartman was IMO one of the most versatile guys to ever be on the show.
July 1, 201214 yr I think Eddie Murphy was once great, but has box-office flopped his way into the crapper. Sandler has done the same thing, only MUCH faster than Eddie Murphy did. I feel kinda the same way with Chevy Chase, although starring in Fletch, Caddy Shack, and Christmas Vacation are worth a LOT of credit in my book.
