Highlands Freshman Football 2012

Frozen rope has more to do with speed rather than distance..

I agree. Frozen rope means "on a line at a high velocity." No high school frosh qb is throwing it on a line at a high velocity for 55 yards.

If he means he can chuck it 55 yards then that's different.

Agree..

I quit reading after this.

A 55-yd frozen rope?

Well Clyde he was accurate about the Towles comment. There will be another Towles, but it will be PT's little brother Ben T.:D

Didn't even get that far. Didn't know there was another Towles on the horizon.

Sorry to cause such a stir with my "frozen rope" comment. Pardon my embellishment.

The fact is Hergott can throw sideline to sideline with almost no arc on his ball and he does it over and over. It may not be a frozen rope, but it's impressive to say the least.

Approx. how many players on the freshman team?

There have been between 30-40 coming to conditioning. More will come over the next week since school is out. They will also be picking kids up that will be transfering to Highlands from other schools (parochial, southgate, etc.). They should also be coming this week. I may be wrong about this but I have heard those students cannot begin until their school is out.

This team should be very interesting in 2012. They are as talented as any I have seen at the skilled positions. They have five backs that could run or receive for any team in NKY (Ochoa, Daughtery, Johnson, Kendal, Zigler). They all run hard, are fast, and can catch the ball.

Hergott at QB is a real strength. 6'2", throws 55 yards on a frozen rope, has touch, and can run. Maybe another Towles down the road.

The defense will be quick to the ball with all this speed. They have a few linebackers that get to the ball and are tough (Backsheider and Bradford).

The O-line has Hebel back again after playing last year as an eighth grader. Bradford is tough and strong. Richardson is very strong. They have many other good linemen to go for the rest of the spots.

If they can avoid the injury bug and get by Trinity without injury, they should be right in the hunt for another freshman title.

Good luck freshman birds!

Ryan Ochoa will not be playing for the Birds this year. Numbers are somewhere around 34-35 prior to the kids coming from other schools. Today is the first day that these kids are allowed to participate. Lot of praise to heap on a group of boys that have not put on the equipment yet for the Birds except for Hebel. There is some talent in the class and I am sure that Coach Behymer and his staff will have them ready to go for the lid lifter with Trinity in Louisville.

Sorry for what you may think was a harsh "welcome" but please understand that many of the posters who have been on here a long while have heard a ton of embellishment about players over the years. Heck if every Ky football player that someone posted was D-1 material actually got a D-1 scholarship, Kyians would fill up the SEC and Big 10 rosters (okay, some embellishment or exaggeration on my behalf :D). So a lot of the more, shall we say seasoned posters like Clyde (and me too), won't hesitate to call baloney if they think they see it.

Glad you are on the board (we can always use another Highlands fan on here....I can hear people groaning through my computer). Really looking forward to watching Hergott and the rest of the freddies don the Birds equipment and play this year.

Reason?

He played great for the Green Team last year.

He did not attend any of the winter/spring conditioning and according to several of the kids he told them that he will be attending Dixie next year.
