I am not questioning their toughness. However, making the jump from the FTJFL to freshman is a big jump. They seem to be very talented, but they lack size.

 

It will be interesting to see how they respond to playing against kids from some of the bigger schools (Trinity, Boone, Ryle). This crop has had a lot of injuries in the FTJFL. They will get a chance to prove their toughness against Trinity right away. I see this team having trouble against a team that will line up and run it right at them like Beechwood did in 2008.

Injuries are a part of football and I would not say that has anything to do with toughness but in most cases being unlucky. Who was injured in the FTJFL that missed significant time? I will give you that the jump from middle school to high school is a big one, but all schools have kids going through the same thing.

 

As far as size, I would disagree as well. Hebel is a monster on the line, Bradford, Richardson, Henschen, Hergott all have very good size for incoming frosh. Also heard the boy from Hebron has some size as well.

Four or five red eighth grade players missed at least one game last year. Henschen was out for four games last year. If injuries are just due to bad luck, I hope they get luckier this year.

I do not think Henschen was out with an injury, rather he was sick. Not sure who the red players were that missed games other than Mayhew and Cain, one of which was injured by someone stepping on his hand and badly breaking a finger. Again I think these are just a part of being a football player. The kids will get a much needed break over the next two weeks to recharge their batteries and get ready for the long season ahead. First game is now less than two months away and I am sure Coach Behymer and the rest of the staff are chomping at the bit to get things going.

You just did a second time. And don't all and I mean all players make the jump to the next level. Unless of course they didn't play last year. Pretty sure everyone is in the same boat.

 

Wait, are you saying the FTJFL isn't developing the kids to be tough players. Seems to have been sufficient the last 50+ years. :idunno:

It is making sure you get off your blocks and attack the footbal and playing to the whistlel. It is getting to the ball in a bad mood on every play. It's about making sure you find a way to get a yard on fourth and 1. Playing injured is not toughness

Interesting you say that. I watched a kid last year that played for I think the Green Team have to sit out numerous series throughout the year because he couldn't control his emotions at times. I guess he is 5% mental and 95% physical preparedness.

I did not see the situation or situations you describe, but that doesn't sound like he was playing tough. That sounds out of control. Mental toughness is channeling emotions and helping your team.
