article 14th Region Week 8 Review: Only One Change To The Top 5.

Another week in the basketball season has came and gone. We seen a lot of movement in the top 5 this season but this week, we only had one movement within the top 5. With that said, let's take a look back at week 8 in the 14th region.

1) Knott County Central (13-6): After hitting a rough spot during Christmas break, the Patriots have kicked it into another gear and have won 8 streak including last week's two wins. Knott County Central traveled up to Belfry to take on the Pirates. Looking to keep their momentum going and that's exactly what they did with a 58-50 win. The very next day, the Patriots traveled down the mountain parkway to Winchester, George Rogers Clark High School, to participate in the Tim Short Automotive Classic against Pike County Central. Knott County Central cruised to an 81-55 win.

The Patriots will have their hands full this week as they host Letcher County Central on Tuesday and then travel to Richmond to participate in the all "a" state tournament at EKU's McBrayer Arena. They will open up with Middlesboro, a team they defeated just a few weeks ago 45-40, on Thursday morning at 11 am. If they win, they'll keep playing, if not they will return home and host Cordia on Saturday..

2) Breathitt County (11-6): The Bobcats added three more wins to their record this past week. Breathitt County cruised past both Leslie County 86-65 and Jackson City 63-44. Breathitt County would also defeat Estill County 85-72 behind 12 three pointers by the entire team.

Breathitt County will have three more games this week. Tuesday they host Buckhorn, Friday travel to Wolfe County and Saturday they travel to Lexington to take on Sayre.

3) Perry County Central (8-10): Perry County Central added two wins to their record this week. They weren't easy wins but they were wins. They defeated Clay County 53-51 on a game winner. Perry County Central would welcome in the Cordia Lions just a few days later after their win over Clay County. The Commodores would go on to defeat the Lions 75-66.

Perry County Central has several big games this week. They travel to Wolfe County on Monday, host Buckhorn on Thursday and travel to Leslie County on Saturday.

4) Hazard (17-4): The Bulldogs continue to roll. They defeated North Laurel in a thriller 63-60, Oneida Baptist Institute 77-63 and Lewis County 48-35 at Fleming County on Saturday.

Hazard has one lone game this week and that's at Sheldon Clark on Tuesday.

5) Buckhorn (14-6): The Wildcats are rolling. After getting slaughtered by Hazard two weeks ago, the Wildcats put up three straight wins, against some really good competition. They defeated previous #5, Letcher County Central 69-58, Leslie County 81-62 and Lawrence County 78-66 at Fleming County.

The Wildcats will be tested greatly this week. Travel to Breathitt County on Tuesday and Perry County Central on Thursday and host Oneida Baptist Institute on Saturday. The Wildcats will be put through a test with that schedule. If they can hold up and pick up some wins they may just jump significantly in next week's rankings.

6) Letcher County Cenral (10-7): The Cougars split their two games last week, losing 69-58 on the road at Buckhorn but defeating June Buchanan 90-65 at June Buchanan. The Cougars went 7-2 before Christmas, have gone 3-5 since.

Letcher County Central will travel to Knott County Central on Tuesday for a big 53rd district showdown. They will also travel to Leslie County on Thursday.

7) Cordia (2-14): Cordia continues to struggle. They're playing some great teams but they are putting up more losses than wins. Cordia fell to Corbin 67-62 and Perry County Central 75-66 last week.

The Lions will travel to Southwestern on Tuesday. Return home on Friday and Saturday hosting both Harlan Independent and Knott County Central in a big 53rd district showdown.

8) Wolfe County (6-10): Wolfe County picked up two rather easy wins last week. Defeating Lee County 105-64 and Jackson City 89-62. Those wins stop the bleeding for now but may not stop it for long.

Wolfe County will host Perry County Central on Monday, Breathitt County on Friday and travel to Owsley County on Saturday.

9) Powell County (5-12): The Pirates won their only game last week, defeating Owsley County 41-38 on the road. The Pirates pretty much have the #1 seed locked down for the 56th district tournament.

Powell County will travel to Lee County on Friday and Anderson County on Saturday.

10) Estill County (5-13): The Engineers dropped two of their three games. One of their losses was to an old rival, Montgomery County. 58-52 would be the final. That's the first time since the 2002/3 season that this game has been this close or even Estill winning. That's a win enough for Estill. The Engineers would defeat Lee County 76-54 on the road. In their final game of the week, Estill County would fall to Breathitt County 85-72, closer than expected, especially on the road at the #2 team in the region.

Estill County will travel to Owsley County on Tuesday, return home and host Bath County on Thursday before traveling to Fleming County on Saturday.

11) Owsley County (9-9): The Owls won two of their three games last week. Defeating June Buchanan 69-64 for the second time this season (third meeting between these two teams) and Jenkins 68-52. Owsley County fell to Powell County in a thriller 41-38 last week.

12) Leslie County (2-11): Leslie County continues to struggle. The Eagles dropped both games last week, losing 86-65 to Breathitt County and Buckhorn 81-62. With those losses, the Eagles have now dropped three straight games.

13) Jackson City (5-12): Last week was not a good week to be a Jackson City Tiger nor a fan as they got drilled in all three of their games. Losing 76-42 on the road at Betsy Layne, Breathitt County 63-44 and Wolfe County 89-62. The Tigers have now dropped 4 straight games.

14) June Buchanan (4-13): June Buchanan went 1-2 last week. Defeating Jenkins 83-72 but falling to both Letcher County Central 90-65 and Owsley County 69-64.

15) Lee County (5-18): The Bobcats dropped two games last week, both in blowout fashion. Wolfe County eased past the Bobcats 105-64 and 76-54 to Estill County. The only good news is, the Bobcats showed improvement against Estill County from the earlier meeting where Estill drilled Lee County 76-27.

16) Riverside Chrisitan (0-0): No games for the Rams this season.
