Week five is in the books. School is back in session - unless you're covered with half an inch of ice. All-A tournaments have started. And the top spots in the 10th region remain unchanged.

1. Campbell County (14-2, 7-0 region). The Camels dispatched a pair of region foes last week, short-handed both times. First was a 77-68 win over Mason County at The Fieldhouse that saw Coach Russell's squad outscore the Royals by 15 points over the last six and a half minutes of the game. With Reid Jolly still out, Tanner Clos poured in 29, and was backed up by Joel Day's 12. Drew Wilson added another dozen and Nathan Schaefer got hot in the fourth quarter, chipping in 11 big points. Jolly returned to the lineup in the Camels' 64-51 over the Mustangs of Bishop Brossart. This time it was Wilson missing from the lineup (sick), but Day, who played all 32 minutes in each contest, stepped up with 27; Jolly adding 15 and Clos 13. This one was closed than the final score indicated; as the stubborn 'stangs had a slim lead at the 5 minute mark. Two home games for the Camels this week - Western Hills (OH) and Conner.

2. Clark County (13-3, 6-1). George Rogers Clark went 3-0 last week, getting a stranglehold on the 40th district in the process. Will Philpot had 20 (and 14 boards) and Brennan Canada 16 in a hard-fought 59-52 decision over Paris that saw them go 16-21 from the charity stripe to seal the win. Next was a 35-point manhandling of district foe Bourbon County. Philpot and Canada both notched double-doubles in this one (19/10 and 16/10) and Ryan Cooper had a team-high 21. Clark finished the week with an 83-62 drubbing of Garrard County, putting four (Philpot, Canada, Cooper and Jordan Graham) in double-figures. Another effective night from the line - 18-23, but probably more important (this has been a bugaboo for the Cards this season), 23 assists against just 5 turnovers. Three games this week - Harrison County, Montgomery County and Muhlenberg County.

3. Pendleton County (11-4, 8-1 region). Coach Belcher's Wildcats started the week with a convincing 88-61 win over Robertson County. Even missing started Jacob Yelton, the reliable Dontaie Allen had 24, Grant Walsh had 23, Brendan Neltner added 18 (all from distance) and Adam Antrobus had 10. Next was a long road trip to South Laurel to play Corbin. The Andrew Taylor (38 points) - Dontaie Allen (44/10) show didn't disappoint, but the Cats fell 83-76. Grant Walsh added 23 for Pendleton, who once again played without Yelton. Scott (should be a good one) and Grant county both at home this week.

4. Paris (10-4, 5-3 region). Wednesday saw the Greyhounds fall to Clark County 59-52 in a game that saw starter Marcus Ashford go down to injury in the second quarter after scoring just two points. Senior guard Eric Johnson led the Hounds with 20 points, with Taleigh Adams chipping in 11. Paris dismantled Bracken County in the first round of the 10th-Region all-A tournament in Carlisle on Saturday, 63-36 in a game that was never in doubt. Johnson and Jalen Byars led the Hounds with 17 and 12; with the starters (Ashford still out) resting the final 10 minutes. The Greyhounds' only action this week will once again be at the All-A where they face Bishop Brossart.

5. Scott (10-4, 2-2 region). Scott won a pair of games last week, defeating Holmes by ten and South Laurel by 8 in an overtime thriller on the road. Scott (minus Chad Ohmer in this one) jumped out against Holmes early; 31-19 after the first quarter, but the dogged (see what I did there?) Holmes squad cut the lead to 2 in the third quarter before Scott pulled away. Jaycob Pouncy, Nelson Perrin and David Hunter scored 16 apiece in the win, with Pouncy pulling down 10 boards. Busy and challenging week for the Eagles - Pendleton County and Boone County away, then a rematch with Simon Kenton at NKU on Friday.

6. Mason County (9-6, 3-3 region). The Royals put a quartet in double figures in the home loss to Campbell County - Leevi Dunaway with 19, Jayden Steward 18, Jaylen Lofton 11 and Dalton Perkins 10. Jeremiah Jones did not play in this one. Mason County outlasted Holmes on the road in a low-scoring affair, 51-46. Dunaway (19/10) and Steward (13/12) with double-doubles in the game and outscoring the Bulldogs 18-8 in the final stanza. Fleming County, Ashland and Lexington Catholic this week.

7. Bishop Brossart (9-6, 3-1 region). Coach Code's squads almost always find a way to play with the top-level teams, as evidenced in their loss to Campbell County, where they had a 4th-quarter lead. The Mustangs sandwich wins over Lloyd Memorial (68-62) and Calvary Christian (66-31 in the All-A) around the CC loss. A pair of Mustangs notched career highs in the win over Lloyd (Ethan Eilerman with 19 and Carson Schirmer with 10) along with 15 and 14 from steady Zach Hamberg and Bryce Donnelly. Donnelly, Hamberg and Eilerman in double figures in the Campbell County game; and 12 Mustangs in the scoring column in the romp over Calvary. Like Paris, Brossart plays just the one game (against none other than Paris) in the Al-A this week at Carlisle.

8. Montgomery County (6-8, 2-4 region). A close loss to 4-12 Garrard County (72-68) and a close win over Madison Southern (53-50) last week saw the Indians drop a bit in ol' pap's rankings this time around. One of the 10th's pleasant surprises this season continues to be the emergence of Pharoah Davis, who along with Myron Ralls are the squad's double-digit scorers. Grant County, Clark County and all the way to Southwestern to play Clinton County this week.

9. Harrison County (6-8, 2-2 region). The Breds journeyed to the 11th region in their only action and defeated a pretty good Frederick Douglass team 52-49. A trio of Thoroughbreds reached double figures - Spencer Free with 16, Braden Bryant with 14 and Thomas Thompson with 10. This week isn't any easier, facing Clark County and Bourbon County.

10. Bourbon County (6-8, 3-5 region). The Colonels came out out on the right end and the wrong end of 35-point decisions last week. First was a big 80-45 win over Nicholas County; then the aforementioned 95-60 loss to Clark County. Powell County at home, then Harrison County and Southwestern on the road this week.

11. Robertson County (8-6, 5-1 region). Robertson had a decent showing against a superior Pendleton County squad in the first action of the week, eventually falling 88-61. Coach Kelch's Devils then steamrolled St. Patrick 92-64 and Silver Grove 79-24 (this in the All-A, where they face Nicholas County in their only game this week.

12. Augusta (7-7, 3-5 region). Panthers fell hard to Newport, 77-35 before bouncing back in a revenge game against St. Patrick in the All-A; prevailing 70-53 behind 17 from Austin Eichenberger, 15 from Cody Ripato and 13 from Stephen Cordle. Panthers play the winner of Nicholas/Robertson in the All-A, then host Ripley (OH).

13. Nicholas County (4-7, 2-5). Rough week for the Jackets last week, falling to Bourbon County and Bath County at home. Robertson County in the All-A this week.

14. St. Patrick (5-11, 1-5). Neither Isaiah Garrison nor Bel Swolsky have suited up for the Saints as of yet, who dropped games to Robertson County and Augusta (Brevin Jones with 26/11, Baylen Bauer with 11 in this one). Silver Grove and Berea provide the opposition for the Saints this week.

15. Calvary Christian (8-7, 2-6 region). Losses to Portland Christian and Bishop Brossart followed a big win over Silver Grove. This week finds the Cougars facing Villa Madonna and Ludlow.

16. Bracken County (2-12, 0-7 region). Polar Bears fell hard to Paris in the ll-A, with Tad Fisher tallying 11. No action this week.

17. Silver Grove (0-10, 0-3 region). A pair of 50+-point losses last week to Calvary and Robertson; three tilts this week (St. Patrick, Bellevue and Whiteoak (OH)).

Player of the week. The nod goes to Will Philpot of Clark County this time around - multiple double-doubles and three team wins.

Paris Brossart game will tell me a lot about my hounds. Big game for both teams. Coach Code's team will be well disciplined as always. Can Paris force the Mustangs to turn it over at a high rate? Will Paris be able to score in the half court against one of the most disciplined teams in the region? This will be low scoring.
