Class 1A

All eyes were on the defending champions and the Beechwood Tigers put on a show. Beechwood downed 3A Corbin in one of Kentucky's premier early season small school clashes to secure their spot as Class 1A's top ranked team. The Tigers now set their sights on another #1 team in the form of 5A Covington Catholic. Hazard faced defeat for the first time as they fell to 2A Somerset. Class 2A

It is almost becoming old news at this point: Class 2A's top five teams take on stiff competition, the Class 2A teams then leave the weekend remaining undefeated. Despite tough challenges for Christian Academy- Louisville, Danville, Mayfield, and Lexington Christian Academy, they went a combined 4-0 and turned heads doing it with each securing a double digit victory. DeSales took last week off, but will now get their obligatory test taking on a ranked 5A Fern Creek squad. Somerset is perhaps the hottest trending 2A team after an impressive showing against 1A #1 Beechwood and a win against then 1A #2 Hazard, the Briar Jumpers continue their tough non-district slate against a ranked 5A North Laurel. A pair of top ten clashes also highlight this week with Newport Central Catholic challenging Christian Academy- Louisville and Walton-Verona squaring up Lexington Christian Academy.

Class 3A

The King of 3A just won't go away. Belfry retakes the top spot away from Corbin after a busy weekend in Northern Kentucky against a pair of small school traditional powers. The Pirates made short work of 2A Newport Central Catholic as the Pirates offense continued to post video game numbers, meanwhile Corbin could not hold off 1A Beechwood in a game that lived up to the hype. Corbin wasn't alone in defeat as Lexington Catholic, Elizabethtown, and Central all took losses against extremely stout competition. Boyle County had perhaps the most impressive win of the Top 10 as they crushed 4A #2 Wayne County, the Rebels will now look to make it two for two against the next class higher as they take on #3 Collins.

Class 4A

Johnson Central is getting pretty good at defending the honor of the Bluegrass State as they have made it a habit to defeat teams from West Virginia. The Golden Eagles are also getting good at beating teams with lots of sheer athleticism, as they will face their 4th straight team with tons of speed at the skill positions as they travel to play Moore. Wayne County remains in the co-pilot position despite a convincing loss to 3A Boyle County, and they will try to bounce back to form against 5A Harlan County. Meanwhile, #3 Collins will get to see what Wayne County had to deal with as they take on the Rebels for themselves. Western has clawed their way into the Top 10 against a brutal schedule that only gets tougher against 6A power, Male. Hopkinsville knows all about this quandary, the Tigers remain winless but still are hanging on in the Top 10. Hopkinsville will look to break into the win column against 3A Paducah Tilghman.

Class 5A

It is safe to say the top two teams are starting to pull away from the field in Class 5A. Covington Catholic and Bowling Green each collected impressive victories and look to both be legit title contenders. Covington Catholic will step down in class to take on 1A #1 Beechwood, but will not necessarily be stepping down in competitiveness. The hottest team in Class 5A is South Warren. The Spartans continue to ascend the rankings as they now enter the Top 5 following a solid win against 6A Central Hardin. Two teams in need of a win are Pulaski County and Fern Creek; they will have their hands full this week against two solid foes. North Laurel makes their debut at the top and will have to fend off 2A Somerset to stay there.

2. Bowling Green vs. 4A Warren Central

3. Christian County -- OPEN

4. South Warren vs. Grayson County

5. Fern Creek at 2A #3 DeSales

6. Owensboro at 6A Daviess County

7. South Oldham at 6A Boone County

8. Southwestern at Madison Southern

9. North Laurel at 2A #9 Somerset

10. Pulaski County vs. Allen County- Scottsville at Lindsey Wilson College

Class 6A

Trinity got a strong challenge by Male but the Shamrocks prevailed as expected, and will play yet another out of state foe as they host a Division 1 talent saturated foe from Florida (weather permitting). Scott County has started their own border run and fought valiantly before falling to Moeller (OH), and will face their second straight Greater Catholic League foe traveling to play LaSalle. Campbell County has been one of the most pleasant surprises in Northern Kentucky as they are on the fringe of the Top 10 and can move in if they can knock off Ryle. Ballard just polished off 3A Central in impressive manner and can improve their Jefferson County stature if they can knock off Manual.

1. Trinity vs. Champagnat (FL)

4. Scott County at La Salle (OH)
