I, for one, wouldn't be surprised.

Although my team only played one game, and I'd have to believe that tickets sales should be at least a comparable split to all teams had it been played at a host school, the EXPO is the best venue for future tournaments. It's a neutral site which will better prepare the winner for RUPP(horrible draw this year though!), if they can only do something for the dead spots(no school had an advantage, but it must be distracting to the players) I heard occasionally.

Actually I think PRP was just taking jabs at the east since PRP said the 16th would have an easy road the first round playing the 1st Region winner, but would then lose the next game. :thumb:

The Cats are to be commended for spending more time recruiting in their own back yard. It has never made much sense to me for UK to recruit those from out of state who didn't make the cut at any other SEC school, so why not give our own athletes the chance to play at the next level? :thumb: It would have to be more popular around the Commonwealth! And we would be at least as competitive as recruiting the cast-offs from the other conference schools.

I thought the officials who called this game were as fair as anyone could ask for! They called fouls on both teams, as they occurred, and took time to talk to the players of both teams in order to, what appeared, maintain control. I can't imagine anyone who knows anything about the game objectively criticizing either of these men. They were thrust into a, potentially, extremely volatile environment, and never let it effect their objectivity. They were tested many times, but maintained control throughout. The foul called on E. Johnson in the 1st half when he clothes-lined Hughes going in for a layup, and ruled an intentional foul was, I believe, very close to being a flagrant foul that would have resulted in an automatic ejection. And it didn't seem that he was the only Raider who wasn't satisfied with playing hard in this game, choosing instead to wear a chip on their shoulders and electing to devote their energy, primarily, to altercations with Blackcat players and in questioning calls made, or not made, by the officials. One player from each team fouled out in this one but Sean Leslie's 5th foul, coming early in the 4th period, was more damaging to the Blackcats than was Ryan Johnson's 5th foul in the 4th period due, in part, to the fact that Leslie ended up garnering game-high honors with 23 pts. while Johnson had only scored 7 pts. But, simply put, fouls were called as they occurred. :thumb: I did get a chance to look over the stats and, while you're close, the Blackcats were 7 of 13 from behind the 3-pt. line in the 1st half but were, unfortunately, 0 for 6 in the 2nd half. The Raiders made 6 of 15 from behind the 3-pt. line in the 1st half while ending up making 10 of the 26 they shot for the game. So, while coming out after halftime intent on shutting down the Blackcats' outside shooting, the Raiders were still outscored 15-11 in the 3rd period, allowing the Blackcats too many uncontested inside baskets instead. Maybe, now that this one's in the books, we can look forward to the next meeting between these teams to be absent so much controversy, both before and during the game. I believe there's too much talent on both teams for it not to be decided on the court! :ylsuper: Let's not forget that, while not exactly next door, we are neighbors and should save our disgust for those who still see us both barefoot and dirty!

I believe maturity should be considered as well. If a kid isn't on a maturity level with his peers, then he should stay back. I wish both of mine had stayed back at some point during grade school. I didn't agree at that time that it was the best thing to do, but now that they're both older I can see where another year of maturity would have been better for everything(academics & athletics included) they're doing now but it's too late! :sleep:

Does anyone know the score from the championship game of the tournament? It was to have been played on Friday night at around 9 PM, right after the Corbin/Madisonville-North Hopkins girls championship game that Corbin won.

The Blackcats held Williams from Woodford to 28 pts.(10 in the first half) in the Frankfort tournament last week and, as I was told by a Frankfort staff member seated at the table, he is a sure all-stater. And it seemed as though our defense was penalized much more than Woodford's in the 2nd half, after we took the lead into the locker room at halftime, or their scoring would have been less than the 59 pts. they put up. We also "held"( ) June Buchanan's Stepp to 33(6 in OT, I believe) in an earlier overtime loss.

Barnett appears to be the worst affected with this bug, with McGuire running a close 2nd since Stephens seems to be much better today. We'll hope for no relapses for any of the players affected by this malady. :thumb: And not much to report regarding stats, really oldgrad, since Stephens was the only player to score in double figures, although he was 10 for 11 from the charity stripe. Leslie had 4 more blocks today, along with 7 pts. and 7 rebounds. Barnett had 8 pts. and Herrick 7pts. Trevor Patton came off the bench and gave his team a pretty good boost with 6 boards and 5 pts. :thumb:

The Blackcats played much better today! Down by one at the end of the 1st, led by two at the half, and Michael Stephens shrugged his bug and scored 22 of his game high 24 pts. in the second half to help keep the Blackcats in the lead. :thumb:

So the movement towards changing it to a non-contact sport began long before I thought! And if, as "widely believed", the conditions were man-made, were those conditions not equal for both teams just as if mother nature had dumped rain or snow on the field? :creepy: I'm not saying I condone creating artificial conditions, but what is the most common term for Astroturf? Artificial turf(which is what the Pirates play on now)? I've seen much worse things happen that I sure didn't think was worth mentioning some 20 years later, much less blaming a loss on them.... And I've been a part of playing more than one game on that field when conditions were not ideal and it didn't matter where any of the plays went. It was pretty much the same everywhere. And it was the same for both of us! :sleep: Geez..... Ideal world? I think not. :sssh: But there is definitely a groundswell of support for ideal conditions and, if allowed to happen, it will be the end of the game of football many of us know and love. :mad:
